Chapter 129: Just a Guy Again
There was no party. No celebration.
No speeches.
The Seven Paragons simply said their quiet goodbyes and returned to their homes, their families, their lives.
No one needed grand words. Not after what they'd seen.
Cisco opened breaches one by one, helping them back to their worlds. Kal-El gave a respectful nod. J'onn placed a hand over his heart. Ryan Choi smiled sadly.
And just like that, they were gone.
Back in the Cortex, peace settled over STAR Labs.
Real peace. Not the eerie quiet before a threat. Not the hush of grief. Just... stillness.
Barry sat on the edge of the desk, Patty beside him, her hand resting softly over his.
Cisco leaned against the wall, arms crossed, his smirk replaced by something thoughtful.
Caitlin curled up in one of the chairs, hands clasped in her lap.
Wells stood by the monitors, silent but attentive.
Nora sat at her dad's feet, her eyes wide, not childlike—hopeful.
Even Joe West had come, leaning back in the corner, nodding slowly as if he'd been expecting this moment for a long time.
And in the far corner, curled up on the couch with his arms behind his head, was Dante.
Asleep.
Breathing steady.
Peaceful.
For once, no red lightning in his veins. No Void whispering. No godlike presence behind his eyes.
Just Dante Hart, snoring faintly.
Barry exhaled, slow and measured. Then he began to speak.
"He knew something was wrong. Long before we did."
Everyone leaned in.
Barry looked around the room, voice steady but thick with emotion.
"The Monitor told us the universe was ending. That the Anti-Monitor was rising. That we were chosen. Paragons. Fated to stop it all."
He looked down at Nora, then back at the rest.
"But none of that was real. The Crisis was… orchestrated. Staged."
Patty frowned. "By the Monitor?"
Barry nodded. "Yeah. He moved the pieces himself. He was trying to stir something up. Something he could manipulate. Something ancient."
"Void Force," Wells said quietly.
"Exactly," Barry said. "Dante and his two brothers were the last ones who could even touch that power. But his brothers died. The Void faded."
"And Dante turned to the Speed Force," Caitlin added.
"Right. That's what set things off. The Monitor saw a spark in him. Not just power, but potential. He saw a way to draw out the Anti-Monitor. To restart an ancient war... to prove himself."
Joe leaned forward, brow furrowed. "So all of this... the end of everything…"
"Was because one man couldn't let go of the past," Barry said bitterly.
"And Dante figured it out."
Cisco shook his head, rubbing his face. "Man… he always had that look in his eyes whenever he looked at the Monitor ."
Barry chuckled softly. "He did more than figure it out. He absorbed the Monitor. Broke him down. Took his power. And then—he faced the Anti-Monitor himself."
He paused. Eyes distant. Remembering it.
"No words. No speeches. Just… chaos. Two gods tearing reality apart. Punches that split stars. Hits that broke timelines. They didn't run. Didn't dodge. They just… fought. Like the beginning of time itself."
The room went still.
Joe swallowed hard. "And he won?"
Barry nodded slowly. "He became the Void itself. Let it consume him. Used it. Ate the Anti-Monitor from the inside out."
Nora looked up. "And then he rebuilt everything."
Barry smiled sadly. "Yeah. One universe at a time. One Earth. One family. Everything. All of it came back because of him."
Caitlin's voice was soft. "And then?"
Barry's throat tightened. "He died."
Patty looked away.
"He gave up everything," Barry continued. "The Void. The Speed Force. Immortality. Godhood. Everything. Just to come back. Not as a hero. Not as a force of nature."
He looked over to the couch where Dante lay snoring lightly, an arm thrown over his face.
"Just as a guy."
A beat of silence.
Then Cisco let out a long breath. "That's so like him."
Caitlin smiled faintly. "He could've ruled reality and he chose… couch naps."
Joe chuckled. "Hell, I respect that."
Wells tilted his head. "He gave up eternity for mortality. For connection. For this room."
"For us," Patty whispered.
Barry nodded. "For family. For this world. For Nora."
Cisco sniffed. "Dude, we gotta throw him a party. At least a pizza night or something."
Barry laughed. "Don't let him choose the toppings. He puts hot sauce on everything."
Caitlin chuckled. "Oh god, I remember that."
The mood lightened.
And Dante snored louder.
Cisco nudged a pillow at him. "Hero of the multiverse, ladies and gents. King of naps."
Barry leaned back, finally letting himself relax.
He'd been bracing for disaster. For the next threat. For the other shoe to drop.
But for now… there was nothing.
Just peace.
And Dante—snoring, safe, alive—curled up like a cat on the couch.
---
Later that evening, as the sun dipped behind the skyline, Dante stirred.
He blinked blearily at the ceiling, then glanced at everyone gathered.
"You all watched me sleep?" he muttered.
Cisco shrugged. "We just wanted to make sure you didn't wake up all cosmic again."
Dante smirked. "Nope. No gods here. Just me. And I'm starving."
Barry stood. "Then let's get dinner. No speeches. No farewells. Just tacos and a quiet night."
Dante sat up, stretching with a yawn. "That's the best thing I've heard all day."
And with that, the heroes of the multiverse stepped into the elevator like they weren't legends—just friends.
For the first time in a long time…
The world felt normal.
