Chapter 107 – "The Cold Hand of Love"

The sky over Central City was painted in deep orange and purple. The last rays of sunlight dipped below the skyline as the city finally exhaled.

For once, there was peace.

Dante walked slowly through the empty streets, one hand tucked into his jacket, hood down, eyes soft. The familiar scent of asphalt and burning ozone still lingered from the battle hours ago, but the silence?

The silence was new.

Killer Frost walked beside him, boots clicking quietly against the concrete. Her pale fingers were in his, her grip hesitant—not tight, not loose—just enough.

She didn't want it.

Not because she didn't care.

But because she did.

And caring… scared her.

Her gaze was cold, but Dante had learned long ago that it was only a mask. One he didn't mind melting.

He looked at her hand and smiled. She didn't pull away.

Dante squeezed it gently.

"Relax, Frost. No one's watching."

Frost looked away, biting back a small smile.

They walked in silence for a while.

The air was cool.

For once, Dante didn't need to run. He wasn't saving anyone. He wasn't fighting gods or diving into dimensions. He was just… walking.

And beside him, so was she.

Finally, Frost spoke, voice low and almost shy.

> "Why did you do it?"

Dante blinked, turning his head. "Do what?"

Frost stopped. Her gaze met his.

> "Back then… when you fought Michael. After the Void Force tore into you both. You were dying, Dante. You had minutes left to live. Just enough power to do one thing. And you used it to wake me."

Her voice trembled slightly.

> "I was buried. Dormant. Not even Caitlin knew I was still inside. And you… you brought me back. Why?"

Dante smiled softly, the memory flickering in his eyes like fading starlight.

> "It's just that… the moment I saw Caitlin, I liked her. She was smart, strong, kind. But then Ronnie came back. They got married. Then divorced. Then he joined the Legends."

He chuckled lightly.

> "Messy, I know. But the truth? The moment I stepped into STAR Labs… I saw you. Not Caitlin. You. There was something—deep inside her—that pulled me in. I didn't know your name. I didn't know if you were real. But I knew you were there."

Frost listened quietly.

Dante stopped walking and turned toward her.

He gently reached out and placed his hand beneath her chin, lifting it just a bit.

> "When I was dying… after killing Michael… I could feel my soul unraveling. But I remembered you. And I thought… maybe you deserve more than darkness. Maybe you deserve to be known."

His voice softened.

> "So I chose to give what little I had left… to wake you. Because Caitlin deserves to know you. And you both deserve every good thing this world has to offer."

He leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a whisper.

> "And I swear, I'll spend whatever time I've got left making sure you have it."

Frost's eyes didn't narrow. They didn't roll. They didn't hide.

They just softened.

Filled with something neither icy nor uncertain—but warm.

> "You're such an idiot," she murmured.

Dante grinned. "Yeah. But I'm your idiot."

She chuckled—quiet and genuine—and then gave him a swift punch in the shoulder.

Dante gasped dramatically, stumbling backward.

> "OHHH! My fragile ribs! You monster! I'm delicate now!"

Frost smirked and kept walking.

Dante staggered up behind her, grinning like a fool, and they continued down the street, hand in hand once more.

---

They reached STAR Labs as night truly settled in.

The building was quiet.

Too quiet.

As they stepped through the doors, Dante's instincts twitched. His body lit up with red lightning as it swirled across his arms.

"Something's wrong," he muttered, eyes scanning the shadows.

Then—

> "SURPRISE!!!"

Lights exploded overhead.

Confetti launched.

Voices rang out in chorus, filling the entire lab.

Dante blinked, half-ready to strike—until he saw them.

Everyone.

Barry, standing tall with Patty beside him, grinning ear to ear. Cisco, who had rigged the lights. Wells, raising a glass of whatever alien drink he favored. Joe, eyes glassy, clapping slowly.

From across the room came the Legends—Sara, Nate, Zari, Mick.

Oliver and Team Arrow stood at the back, arms crossed but smiling.

And at the center—Kara.

Alive. Glowing. Beautiful.

She clapped slowly, nodding toward Dante.

Frost nudged him with a smirk.

> "Welcome back from the dead… Dante."

He stared at them all, the lightning fading from his body.

> "You guys really shouldn't sneak up on a guy who just fell from orbit."

Barry laughed. "You're lucky we didn't all end up electrocuted."

Cisco stepped forward. "This is for you, man. For saving the city. For bringing her back. For surviving the gods, the void, and whatever cosmic horror you keep attracting."

He held up a cake.

It read:

"Dante – Central City's Favorite Reckless Idiot"

Frost read it and shook her head. "That's accurate."

Dante scratched his neck. "I feel like I should be offended… but I'm kind of honored."

Barry walked up and hugged him—tight and fast.

"Thank you," he whispered. "For everything."

Kara approached next, placing a hand on his chest.

"You saved me. You saved all of us."

Dante looked at her, then Frost, then the entire room of people who were once just names and now were… family.

He took a deep breath.

> "Alright, alright. Let's party. But somebody please tell Cisco no karaoke this time."

"Too late!" Cisco called from the console. "Already queued!"

Frost groaned.

Dante laughed.

And for the first time in a long, long time—

He felt like he was home.
