Chapter 104 – "Back From the Void"
Smoke curled through the air in slow spirals, lazily drifting toward the ceiling of the Cortex. Dante Hart leaned against the edge of a terminal, a cigarette pinched between two fingers, his gaze distant but alive.
Red hair tousled, red eyes glowing faintly under the low light, his expression was unreadable—a blend of weariness, amusement, and something far more complicated.
Behind him, the monitors flickered with chaos: satellite scans of the city, motion sensors spiking across Earth-Prime. Every screen was focused on one mission—finding Supergirl-X and Oliver-X.
Because the fight wasn't over.
Not until they were.
Barry, Cisco, Oliver, and Sara were still tracking leads, coordinating with ARGUS, running breach trace diagnostics.
But Dante… he stood in stillness, exhaling smoke like he was savoring a rare moment of quiet.
And then—
The doors slid open.
A chill swept into the Cortex as Killer Frost strode in, her eyes glowing an icy blue. Cold radiated from her with every step, forming frost trails across the floor tiles.
"We've got trouble," she said without missing a beat. "Those Nazi assholes are still here. Spotted in Keystone, Central, even Gotham. They're crawling everywhere."
She paused, ice thick in her tone.
"We need to find the leader and ki—"
Then she saw him.
Everything stopped.
The cigarette froze mid-air.
Her glowing blue eyes widened.
He didn't say anything. Just looked at her with that same smirk. That same infuriating smirk.
Dante.
Red hair. Red eyes. Same damn smirk.
Killer Frost froze in place—literally. Frost spread outward from her boots in a wide, circular web of ice.
"…Dante?"
He nodded softly. "Hi there, Snow."
Her breath hitched. Her lips parted, but no words came.
And then—
Like a switch flipping—
Killer Frost vanished.
And Caitlin Snow stood in her place, eyes wide, heart pounding.
She didn't hesitate.
She ran to him.
Threw her arms around him. Held him tight like she thought he might disappear again.
Dante let the cigarette fall and wrapped his arms around her, warm and steady.
"Okay, okay, I'm still technically bruised," he muttered, chuckling into her shoulder. "Careful, doc."
Caitlin pulled back just enough to look at him, tears running freely down her cheeks. "How?" she asked, voice shaking. "How are you alive? After Michael—after the void—?"
Dante gave her a soft smile, brushing a red strand of hair from her cheek.
"Long story short? The Void Force ate me alive the day I killed Michael," he said, his voice low and honest. "I thought I was done. Really done. But the Speed Force—" he paused, eyes flickering — "it saved me. For some reason, I don't even understand. It tore me out and threw me onto Earth-X."
Caitlin's brow furrowed. "Earth-X?"
He nodded. "Nazis. Blood. Chaos. The usual. I found our people there. Saved them. Held the line so they could escape. Took a few bullets for old time's sake." He shrugged. "And now I'm back."
She didn't respond right away.
Just stared at him like he wasn't real.
Then finally: "You idiot."
Dante raised an eyebrow. "Excuse me?"
"You idiot!" Caitlin repeated, laughing and crying all at once as she smacked him in the chest. "You can't just—die—come back—die again—and act like it's a Tuesday!"
He smirked again. "You knew what you signed up for."
"Not this," she said, her voice breaking. "I grieved you. I buried you in my mind."
"I'm sorry," he said, his tone softer than before. "But I couldn't stay gone. Not while they needed me."
Caitlin smiled, wiped her tears, and leaned her forehead against his. "Just… don't do it again. Please."
Dante kissed her forehead gently. "No promises. But I'll try."
From the hallway, Barry peeked in, saw them, and quietly stepped away. He said nothing—just smiled to himself.
---
An hour later...
Everyone was gathered in the Cortex again. Kara was recovering. The mission remained.
Cisco pointed at the screen. "I've traced residual breach energy from the abandoned lab. Looks like Supergirl-X and Oliver-X used a portal shortly after we escaped."
"To where?" Sara asked.
"Central City. Earth-Prime. They're not hiding anymore."
Wells added, "That means they're planning something. Probably their endgame."
Barry looked up. "We stop them before it starts."
Caitlin turned to Dante. "You in?"
Dante lit another cigarette, inhaled, then grinned.
"Let's finish what we started."
