Chapter 13: The Fall of the Silver Capital
Volt's black flames spread like a nightmare through the roots of the Sacred Tree. The entire palace began to shudder violently. Outside, the Elves watched in horror as thick black smoke rose from the crown of their ancient protector.
"What have you done?" the god shrieked, his voice cracking as he felt his magical essence being consumed. "This tree is the heart of this continent! If it dies, all Elves will lose their power!"
Volt stepped over the charred roots, looming over the possessed King. "They must learn to live without your 'charity.' I am ending the false benevolence you used to keep them enslaved."
Sai unsheathed his sword with a blur of motion, silencing the Elven guards who attempted to ambush Volt from behind. "Finish your work, My Lord. I will not let anyone cross this circle."
Aki, meanwhile, was busy prying large crystals from the walls. "The floor is giving way! Volt, we need to hurry, or we'll be swimming out of these ruins!"
Volt placed his hand on the possessed King's head. "Go back to the Heavens and tell your 'masters'... the True Sovereign is here, and he is coming for your thrones." With a massive eruption of dark energy, the divine soul was ripped from the King's body. For the first time in history, the Sacred Tree groaned as its branches snapped, collapsing toward the earth.
