Laura Lowell leaned against the wall, her breathing ragged. She took a few seconds to catch her breath before speaking. "Okay, Leo. I'll be right out."
On the other side of the door, Leo Lowell's expression darkened instantly. Her voice had clearly been a little breathless.
"Come on, let's go out."
Aiden Shaw held her hand, their fingers intertwined, as he pushed the door open and they walked out.
After they sat down at the dining table, Mindy Miller ladled a bowl of soup and placed it in front of Laura Lowell. "I had the kitchen make this soup especially for you. It's very healthy for expectant mothers."
"Thanks, Mom. By the way, where's Dad? I didn't see him come back for lunch."
"Your dad went on a business trip last night. He won't be back for a few days."
Mindy Miller kept piling food into Laura's bowl. "You're eating for two now, so you have to eat more. We can't let my grandbaby go hungry."
"That's too much, Mom. Please stop giving me more. You should eat too."
