She went out to buy matching thread, and as she passed by the wet market, a commotion reached her ears.
She followed the noise to see what was happening.
There, she saw a crowd surrounding a group of men and women with signs hanging around their necks, parading them noisily through the streets.

Behind her was Nick Hughes, hunched over and dejected, like a wilted eggplant after a frost.
