The moment that crisp notification chimed inside the hall—
The entire room froze.
Conversations halted mid-sentence.
Expressions stiffened.
Breaths stopped.
Everyone had the same thought:
Isn't that the sound of passing the assessment?
But…
It had only been a few minutes.
Someone glanced at the timer.
Then another.
And then—
They all sucked in a breath.
Five minutes.
It had only been five minutes since Jiang Yan entered the exam room.
Five minutes!!
The hall exploded into stunned silence.
And when Jiang Yan stepped out of the room, calm and composed—
Everyone finally accepted reality.
"Honey, you're amazing!"
Janet practically flew into his arms, throwing herself at him and planting a sweet kiss on his cheek in full view of the crowd. Pride radiated from her face like sunlight.
Yang Hui, who had been mentally prepared for Jiang Yan to beat the record, still blanked out. His widened eyes didn't blink for a whole two seconds.
Five minutes.
Jiang Yan had completed the assessment in five minutes.
"Hiss—! A true dragon… a true dragon even more monstrous than Shi Jiang!"
Yang Hui let out a trembling breath, shock turning into overwhelming joy.
A talent like this appearing in the Basic Training Camp was nothing short of historic.
He glanced toward Jiang Yan and Janet.
This wasn't the moment to interrupt their celebration.
Shockwaves Through the Hall
"Damn!! Jiang Yan passed the assessment in five minutes!!"
"Monster! Absolute monster!!"
"Is he still human?! That's a one-horned reckless ox with the strength of thirty junior beast generals! Same physical stats—how the hell did he do it in five minutes?!"
"Poet hold!!"
"Hey William—what do you think now?!"
The students from the Basic Training Camp straightened their backs, chins raised, faces brimming with pride and mockery.
"Weren't you pretending just now?!"
"Didn't you look down on us?!"
"Didn't you just say Jiang Yan can't compare to Candace?!"
"Where's that confidence now, brother?! Does your face hurt?!"
William's body went numb.
He stood rooted in place, staring blankly at Jiang Yan as if looking at a ghost.
Five minutes.
FIVE.
His worldview cracked like glass under a hammer.
What kind of freak completes the assessment in five minutes?!
William swallowed with difficulty, then turned stiffly toward Candace.
Candace stood frozen.
The confident glow in his eyes had been extinguished completely.
Only shock—and bitterness—remained.
Everything he had ever been proud of… Jiang Yan crushed effortlessly.
He couldn't even muster jealousy anymore.
But after a long, silent breath, he steadied his emotions.
"…Losing to this kind of freak… I have nothing to say."
Candace gave a self-mocking chuckle.
Passing the A-level assessment in five minutes was something he might do now—
but only after two years in the Genius Training Camp.
Jiang Yan achieved it after two years in the Basic Training Camp.
The gap wasn't simply wide.
It was heaven and earth.
Candace took a deep breath and looked at Jiang Yan again.
In that moment, he made a firm decision:
Someone like Jiang Yan… must be befriended, not competed against.
Mutual Acknowledgment
After his warm hug with Janet, Jiang Yan turned to face the others.
"Haha! Jiang Yan, you've given us all a huge surprise!"
Yang Hui laughed heartily. His eyes held nothing but satisfaction and admiration.
Jiang Yan smiled slightly.
If I hadn't spent so much time practicing my blade technique inside, I probably could've cleared it in one or two minutes… That really would've scared them to death.
Yang Hui clapped his hands.
"Alright, next! Continue the exams!"
The remaining examinees were called one by one.
Realistically, everyone else needed twenty minutes or more to finish.
With so many people, the entire process would last two to three hours.
Afterward, the codename registration still awaited them.
Yang Hui had a long day ahead.
Once he ushered the next student inside, Candace walked toward Jiang Yan.
"Hello, Jiang Yan."
He extended his hand with a calm smile.
"I'm Candace. Congratulations on passing the assessment and officially becoming a member of the Genius Training Camp."
The hall buzzed.
Candace took the initiative?!
And so politely?!
Weren't they supposed to be rivals?!
"Hello." Jiang Yan shook his hand with a light smile.
His impression of Candace was good.
The man had principles.
He didn't achieve his goals through crooked means.
"If there's a chance in the future, let's have a friendly spar."
Candace said seriously.
He intended to befriend Jiang Yan—but once Jiang Yan officially joined in March, he would still challenge him. He needed to know the true difference.
"No problem." Jiang Yan smiled.
He wasn't sure Candace would still have the courage by then, though.
After all—
his power growth speed was nothing short of terrifying.
They exchanged contact information.
Candace then dragged the dazed William out of the ninth floor.
Jiang Yan chuckled softly.
Candace's goodwill might prove useful… especially for his upcoming trip to City 003.
Codename Registration
"Jiang Yan, it's time to choose your codename."
Yang Hui came out of the inner room after explaining procedures to the next examinee.
Jiang Yan nodded.
Every official Genius Training Camp member had a unique six-digit codename.
"You all need a codename too," Yang Hui told the others. "I'll register them now."
Then he explained:
"The codename is a six-digit number. Since you'll officially join the camp in March next year, the first four digits will be 5703.
"The last two digits can be any number from 01 to 31.
"And—because Jiang Yan has the best results, he chooses first."
No one objected.
This was more than deserved.
Jiang Yan answered instantly:
"570321."
He had a special connection with 21—
his birthday was December 21, and in the Basic Training Camp selection, his token number was also 21.
"Noted. I'll register it."
Yang Hui entered the information into his communicator.
A moment later:
"Since you officially enter the camp on March 1st next year, your residence will be arranged then.
"For now, you may go home and simply report back on March 1st.
"Of course… you're welcome to stay and cultivate here. Just leave with Janet when vacation time comes."
"Okay."
Jiang Yan nodded and walked out of the Ninefold Building with Janet.
After they left, Yang Hui addressed the remaining examinees:
"The same goes for you. You may leave now or stay—but if you stay, you'll be living in temporary lodgings."
If Jiang Yan stayed, he could share Janet's place.
The others did not have such an option.
Outside the Ninefold Building
Janet turned to him with eyes shimmering in expectation.
"Jiang Yan… are you going to stay and wait for me?"
