Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 – Blade Breakthrough, Candace’s Confidence!

Ten thousand times the critical hit!!

The moment Jiang Yan saw the glowing system text, joy surged instantly.

This was a ten-thousand-fold gain—the kind that could shatter bottlenecks in an instant!

Sure enough, two crisp lines of text followed:

[Knife Technique: Specialization (Progress: 58/100)]

[Nine-Fold Thunder Blade – First Layer (Progress: 98/100)]

"It really broke through!"

Jiang Yan clenched his fist slightly, excitement spreading across his face.

His blade technique had leapt directly into Specialization, and the Nine-Fold Thunder Knife's first layer was now only a breath away from perfection. Once the progress hit 100%, he would grasp the second layer of power technique.

Such a huge improvement—in mere minutes.

"Cultivating in life-and-death battles really does increase the critical hit rate."

Jiang Yan recalled the system's earlier hint.

Which meant…

City 003 must be visited.

With its chaos and danger, it could become a treasure trove of insane growth.

He just didn't know if Luo Feng had already parted ways with the Fire Hammer Squad at this point in the timeline.

Probably not yet…

"Classmate Jiang Yan, congratulations on passing the assessment."

The synthetic electronic voice echoed through the virtual space, snapping Jiang Yan out of his thoughts.

Nine-Story Building – Lobby

The elevator dinged open moments earlier, and Candace's sudden arrival had shocked many.

Was he here… to start trouble?

Their gazes instantly shifted toward Janet and Candace, hoping for a dramatic confrontation.

But no.

The two only exchanged a polite nod—no sparks, no tension.

Many students were visibly disappointed. Eating melons was a universal instinct, it seemed.

Janet, however, noticed nothing.

Her gaze stayed fixed on the inner examination room. The only thing she cared about was Jiang Yan's result.

Candace's eyes were also locked on that room.

A depression had been sitting in his chest since last night. It felt suffocating.

Unless he surpassed Jiang Yan in something, he wouldn't feel balanced.

Meanwhile, William stood before the big screen. The fastest clearance time among the day's examinees was 26 minutes—and that was the best result.

He couldn't help but laugh out loud.

"This year's batch from the Basic Training Camp is really weak! Not a single one under twenty minutes, Teacher Yang?"

His voice wasn't small.

The faces of those who had just passed turned red with embarrassment and anger.

Yang Hui merely gave William a bored glance before looking back toward the exam room. The group wasn't terrible—after all, Jiang Yan was among them.

"You say we're weak," a hot-tempered youth snapped, "how long did you take during your assessment then?"

"Heh," William sneered, "I only took 19 minutes back then.

You trash aren't even close."

Hearing 19 minutes, the anger in the room fizzled instantly.

That was indeed impressive.

But William's openly insulting words still felt like a slap.

"We haven't tested yet—don't get cocky! Maybe someone will beat your time!"

"Right! Jiang Yan is still inside. He'll definitely be faster than you!"

"That's right—don't drag Jiang Yan into your 'trash' category!"

The last line hit William hard.

His expression stiffened.

Because he knew very well—Jiang Yan's strength would absolutely break nineteen minutes.

William shot a glance at Candace, then forced a mocking smile.

"Jiang Yan is talented, I admit that. He'll definitely beat nineteen minutes. But I don't believe he can go below fifteen."

He then gestured proudly toward Candace.

"In the Genius Training Camp, lots of people have passed in under fifteen minutes. Some even under ten.

"Candace, for example—he took only eleven minutes."

A wave of gasps rippled through the hall.

Eleven minutes?!

Even the official students looked shocked. In virtual space, everyone's physical fitness was equal. Completing the assessment in eleven minutes required monstrous skill and talent.

Janet's eyes turned icy.

William could run his mouth however he liked—she was waiting for Jiang Yan to slap him with reality soon enough.

Perfect body technique before entering the camp—have you ever seen that?

Eleven minutes?

Just wait.

The other examinees, however, began to lose confidence. Jiang Yan was strong, yes… but Candace's record was terrifying.

Yang Hui also nodded slightly. Candace was indeed exceptional—standing stably in the top fifty of the Black Dragon Ranking after only two years.

Based on experience, Yang Hui estimated Jiang Yan could finish in under fifteen minutes, though probably not as fast as Candace's eleven.

This wasn't because Jiang Yan was weaker—he simply lacked the same level of resources Candace enjoyed growing up.

Candace sensed everyone's admiring gazes and let a faint, confident smile curl on his lips.

Eleven minutes—

It was indeed something he was proud of.

He truly didn't believe Jiang Yan could beat him here.

Ding!!

At that moment, the notification chime echoed through the hall.

Everyone instantly turned toward the examination room—

Their breath caught.
