Chapter 48: Thunder, Teasing & Unexpected Warmth ⛈️💞
The sky had turned dark faster than anyone expected.
Raindrops pelted against the windows as the wind howled through the school courtyard.
Jay pulled her jacket tighter as she stood under the covered walkway, watching the downpour turn the streets into silver rivers. "Great," she muttered. "Just great."
Keifer appeared beside her, umbrella in hand and that familiar grin on his face. "Looks like the universe wants you to stay with me a little longer, Mrs. Watson."
She shot him a look. "Keifer, my road's literally blocked by a fallen tree. I can't go home."
He tilted his head, pretending to think. "Hmm… sounds like destiny."
"Sounds like trouble."
"Same thing." He smiled, and she couldn't help but laugh a little.
Jay sighed, taking out her phone. "I'll just call Kuya Angelo."
Keifer waited quietly while she stepped aside, voice soft and respectful when she explained the situation.
After a few moments, she turned back, lowering the phone. "He said it's fine… as long as I stay somewhere safe."
Keifer's grin widened instantly. "Then it's settled. My place."
"Keifer—"
"No arguing, my love. You'll catch a cold if you stay out here."
Before Jay could respond, a loud crack of thunder split the sky, making her flinch. Keifer instantly moved closer, holding the umbrella over both of them. "Hey," he said softly, "you're safe. I got you."
And somehow, she believed him.

By the time they reached Keifer's house, the storm was roaring outside.
The door opened even before they knocked — and there stood Keiren and Keigen.
Jay froze. The last time they met, the two had made it very clear they didn't like her.
But this time—
"Ate Jay!" Keiren shouted, running up to hug her. Keigen followed right behind, beaming.
Jay blinked. "W-wait… you two—"
Keifer's jaw dropped. "Did I step into a parallel universe?"
Keiren laughed. "Kuya! She brought you snacks last time! She's nice now!"
Keifer looked at Jay, amused. "Nice now? Wow, progress."
Jay chuckled softly, hugging them both back. "You two grew up fast."
Keigen smiled. "Kuya talks about you a lot."
Jay turned, giving Keifer a playful glare. "Oh really?"
Keifer smirked. "Only the good things, my life."
The thunder outside roared again, shaking the windows. Keifer led her inside quickly.
"I'll get you something dry to wear, love. You can change in my room."
"Your room?" Jay raised a brow.
He shrugged. "It's warm, and the guest room's window leaks. I'd rather you stay comfortable." ( We know keifer 😹)
Jay sighed but followed him upstairs, heart fluttering. His room smelled faintly of mint and paper, with a soft glow from the desk lamp.
Keifer handed her a hoodie and loose sweatpants. "They might be a bit big," he teased, "but you'll look adorable."
She rolled her eyes, taking them. "You never stop, do you?"
"Not when it comes to you, sweetheart."
When she came out, he was sitting cross-legged on the couch, two mugs of hot chocolate ready.
Jay sat beside him, pulling her knees close, still listening to the rain.
Keifer handed her the mug. "You know," he said softly, "storms used to scare me when I was a kid. But now… I kinda like them."
"Why?"
He smiled, eyes gentle. "Because they make everything quiet. And somehow, they always end with calm."
Jay looked at him for a moment—really looked. "You've changed," she whispered.
"Maybe," he said, holding her gaze. "Or maybe I just found something worth changing for."
The thunder outside faded into a soft rhythm. Keiren and Keigen were already asleep downstairs.
Jay rested her head on Keifer's shoulder, their mugs still warm between them.
For a long moment, neither of them spoke. The storm outside raged on, but inside — it was all warmth, laughter, and quiet peace.
And before she even realized it, Jay's eyes drifted shut.
Keifer looked down at her, brushing her hair gently. "Goodnight, Mrs. Watson," he whispered with a small smile.
