The sky did not open this time.
It pressed down.
A heavy weight settled over the Broken Lands, bending banners, crushing smoke, forcing even the wounded to struggle for breath.
Yui felt it first.
"…Something's wrong."
The Watcher stiffened.
"They're here."
From the clouds descended a single figure.
No wings.
No scripture.
Just armor made of pale crystal and a helm with no face only a vertical line of light where eyes should be.
It did not speak.
It landed without sound.
The ground beneath it turned white and cracked outward.
Akari stepped forward, spear glowing.
"So this is an Executioner."
The figure tilted its head slightly.
Then vanished.
A shockwave exploded behind Akari.
She barely blocked in time, skidding backward across shattered stone.
"Fast!" Goro shouted.
Hiroto moved instantly, shadow flaring.
He struck—
The Executioner caught the blade of shadow with its bare hand.
The shadow shattered.
Hiroto's eyes widened.
"…It grabbed it."
The Executioner raised its other hand.
A beam of compressed light fired point-blank.
Hiroto was launched through a ruined wall, coughing blood.
"Hiroto!" Yui screamed.
Akari charged again, spinning her spear in a crimson arc.
The Executioner slipped through the strike like mist and appeared behind her.
It struck once.
Akari flew across the field and rolled to a stop, armor cracked.
The soldiers froze.
This wasn't judgment.
This was extermination.
The Watcher shouted
"Do not fight it alone! It does not think only obeys!"
Hiroto pushed himself up from the rubble.
His shadow was shaking.
"…So this is their answer."
The Executioner turned toward him.
Step.
Step.
Each footfall erased cracks from the ground, replacing them with smooth white stone.
Yui ran to Hiroto's side.
"Don't go out there…"
"I have to," he said quietly.
He stepped forward.
The scar beneath him pulsed.
Not violently.
Steadily.
Hiroto raised his hand.
"Come."
The Executioner attacked.
They collided in a burst of black and white.
Shadow and light tore through the air like clashing blades.
The impact shattered nearby ruins.
Hiroto was driven backward, boots carving trenches into the stone.
His arms trembled.
"…It's stronger than the Judge."
The Executioner pressed down.
Its light burned through Hiroto's shadow.
His knees bent.
The Watcher whispered,
"This is not a ruler…
This is a weapon."
Yui clenched her fists.
"…Then stop treating it like a god."
She ran forward and threw a dagger.
It bounced harmlessly off the Executioner's armor.
But it made it turn.
Just for a second.
Hiroto felt something shift.
Not power.
Timing.
He twisted, sliding under the Executioner's arm and slashing upward.
Shadow tore across its chest.
Cracks spread through its crystal armor.
The Executioner staggered.
Akari forced herself up.
"So it can break…"
She hurled her spear.
It struck the cracked armor.
Light exploded.
The Executioner was thrown backward, skidding across the field.
For the first time—
It paused.
The Watcher's voice shook.
"…They can be damaged."
The Executioner rose slowly.
Its armor was fractured.
Its light flickered.
But it raised its arm again.
Above it, the clouds began to move.
Not forming one shape.
But many.
Hiroto stared upward.
"…That's not one."
Akari whispered,
"…That's an army."
The Executioner pointed toward Hiroto.
The others in the clouds began to descend.
And the War of Faith took its next step.
To be continued…
