Chapter 4 - 4

But I can build airplanes and launch missiles beyond visual range at tens of thousands of meters! What monster could possibly be my match? Wait, monsters!" Rosen's thoughts instantly returned from the boundless fantasy world to reality.

No matter how much knowledge he possessed, it was still Earth knowledge. In the world of *The Hunt*, it might not be applicable. To truly transform it into power, he still needed extensive practice.

Practice requires money, but even more so, time. And with the monster right before his eyes, he was still a helpless rich young master, his life still in danger!

'The second floor leads to the living room, surrounded by three bedrooms: one for me, one for Rosen's parents, and one for a guest room. The sound seems to be coming from Rosen's parents' room.'

'A game is a game, reality is reality. There might really be a vampire on the second floor, but it could also be some other monster. Different monsters have different strengths; without investigation, there's no way to target them. First, I must determine what kind of monster it is. I need to go check it out on the second floor.'

Although still terrified, Rosen's resilience kicked in again. He wasn't defeated by fear. He took a deep breath of the air, a mixture of the stench of blood and the musty smell of the wooden building, and tiptoed towards the second-floor stairwell.

With each step, the wooden stairs creaked, the sound jarringly loud in the silent night.

'Damn wooden stairs!' Rosen's heart skipped a beat.

He stood motionless, his ears perked up, listening intently to his surroundings. After a while, nothing unusual happened, but the subtle noises from the second floor continued to drift in.

"The sound is too loud; I need to step on solid ground."

As he lifted his foot again, Rosen tried to land on the joints of the wooden planks of the staircase, slowing his pace as much as possible.

This time it was much better. The sound was still there, but it wasn't as jarring. Rosen exhaled slowly: 'Hopefully, this monster isn't hard of hearing, otherwise I'm definitely doomed.'

 He continued upwards.

The wooden staircase leading up the corner had 12 steps. To minimize the noise, Rosen slowed his pace as much as possible. It took him more than three minutes to reach the top of those 12 steps. Reaching the second floor, Rosen glanced at the floor and sighed inwardly again: 'Wooden floors again! Is this trying to kill me?' After thinking for a moment, Rosen tore off his fur vest from his shoulder, placed it on the wooden plank as a cushion, and slowly made his way towards the source of the strange noise.

After a while, he stopped again.

'No, the sound is coming from Rosen's parents' room. The monster must be there too. Opening the door directly would be suicide. But there's a balcony in that bedroom. I can climb over from my window.'

Thinking this, Rosen adjusted his direction and moved towards his own room.

Finally, he reached the door, opened it, and the door hinges turned with a creaking sound that made Rosen's teeth ache. He immediately turned to look at the door next to his room, afraid of attracting the monster out of his parents' room.

After waiting for more than a minute, still no unusual sounds came from inside. This monster's hearing seemed really bad.

Rosen breathed a sigh of relief and slowly moved into his own room.

The window in the room was open, and a bright moon hung in the night sky outside, its light streaming in and illuminating the room. Rosen peered inside, checked carefully, and after confirming there were no obstacles, moved towards the window.

Climbing onto the windowsill, Rosen positioned himself on the wooden balcony less than a meter away and carefully stepped over it.

It was only on the second floor, and the balcony wasn't high, less than three meters from the ground. The ground was soft grass, so even if he jumped, he wouldn't get hurt. Rosen wasn't worried at all.

He tiptoed onto the balcony, then moved another three meters across the wooden floor before slowly standing up. He peeked his head slightly out of the window, peering into the room through the expensive crystal glass.

A face with bulging eyes and a livid complexion suddenly came into Rosen's view!

 "Holy shit!"

Rosen recoiled in shock, nearly jumping off the balcony.

He immediately pulled his head back, leaning against the wall, his whole body trembling uncontrollably. It took him several minutes to muster enough courage again.

'It's a bit horrifying, but that face seems familiar. That's right, it's Rosen Laplace's father's face, and he's motionless. It must be a corpse.'

The corpse's face was terrifying, but it was still an inanimate object. As long as it wasn't a monster, everything was fine.

Rosen took a deep breath, turned his head again, and cautiously peered through the window.

This time, prepared, he wasn't frightened and looked much more carefully than before. He saw that Rosen's father's body was twisted against the window, his face pressed against the glass, distorted by the pressure, his eyes wide open, so wide that the corners of his eyes were split open.

He was still wearing his pajamas, and there were two deep, bottomless bloody holes in his neck. The exposed skin was a bluish-white color, and his cheeks and eye sockets were noticeably sunken, as if all the fluid in his body had been sucked out.

'There were two bloody holes on his neck, about 4 centimeters apart. A large amount of blood had been lost from his body. He was extremely terrified before he died. He looked exactly like someone who had been drained of blood by a vampire.' Rosen's last shred of hope vanished completely.

Laplace Manor, second-floor balcony of the wooden building.

Suppressing his fear, Rosen rose slightly, his gaze passing over Sir Laplace's corpse to the interior of the room.

Thanks to the bright moonlight tonight, he could see everything clearly, but if he had a choice, he would rather have seen nothing at all.
