"She simply appears," the investigator continues. "The first things we can properly confirm about her begin shortly before she started working for your family." He say, and I scoff.
"People don't simply appear." I point out, and he nods in agreement.
"True, Alpha." He replies and I look him over again.
"Then you're not looking properly." I spit, and he shakes his head in disagreement.
"We thought the same thing." He replies, I narrow my eyes.
Thought? Past tense. He shifts his weight as he keeps going.
"So we stopped relying on records." She says, and I let out a breath.
"We started looking for people instead. People who lived around the area during that period. People who worked nearby. Former landlords. Retired workers. Anyone who might remember her." He narrates, and anticipation seeps into me.
"And?"
This time, he hesitates. I hate hesitation.
