Zane;
Morning arrives far too quickly. Not because I slept well. But because I barely slept at all.
I stare at the ceiling for a long while before drawing a breath. Beside the bed, the alarm clock reads a few minutes past seven.
Normally, I'd already be downstairs, making coffee, and listening to Anu complain that mornings should be illegal.
The thought almost makes me smile. But I can not find it in me to smile with the heaviness currently pressing against my chest and mind.
Her words echo in my mind once more, and I let out a breath.
"What if there are things worse than death?"
I close my eyes as her voice slips back into my head, then another sentence follows.
"…He could be stronger than an Alpha."
My jaw tightens, and the memory returns before I can stop it.
The purple eyes. The intruder's throat beneath Ethan's hand. His boots scraping helplessly against the floor…The panic…The pressure.
All this while, I tried dismissing it as…as adrenaline. Shock…Instinct.
