Chapter 14: (Who're the cute twins at school)
Xiao Yanran's eyes slowly opened as the morning light rays reflected into her eyes but this time they didn't hurt.
She sat up on bed stretching and yawning before inhaling the peaceful air of a Monday morning. She happily hummed a song as she walked into the bathroom taking her toothbrush and began brushing, her feet tapping on the floor happily moving to the rhythm of the song playing in her mind.
Showering and putting on her school uniform, she hung her bag pack and headed for the living room. The dinen table was empty, opening the fridge there was nothing and even going to the kitchen, there was nothing prepared. She didn't break down in sadness and just brushed it off already expecting this. Today was her birthday and wether her parents remembered or not, or chose to starve her on her birthday she didn't care, she was going to keep a positive vibe althrough today.
She was now officially seventeen.
Walking out of her yard, she took in a deep breath enjoying how the morning was going.
"Yanran",
she heard her name and she turned back to see Mr Chen walking up to her.
"Mr Chen, good morning",
she greeted bowing respectfully.
"Happy birthday",
he said giving her a present box and she smiled.
"Thank you so much",
she said happily taking the box.
"You're welcome, now run off to school, don't be late on your birthday",
Mr Chen said and Xiao Yanran nodded but before she could take a step, a black bike sped in circling round her leaving trails of dust and Mr Chen immediately distanced himself avoiding the dust.
The bike finally stopped and as the dust wearied off, she could recognize the bike and her eyes widened.
"Li Wen!",
Xiao Yanran exclaimed as Li Wen removed her helmet getting off the bike and they embraced.
"You're back, you're finally back",
Xiao Yanran said, tears almost welling up in her eyes as they detached.
"There's no way I'd miss my bestie's birthday",
Li Wen said then finally noticed Mr Chen standing few feet away from them fanning off the little dust still roaming around with his hands.
"Oh, Mr Chen good morning, sorry for the dust",
Li Wen said bowing respectfully.
"It's alright, you youths should enjoy yourselves while you're still young, by the time you're aged like me you won't be able to make as much dust as you like",
Mr Chen said and they both chuckled.
"Alright, hop on, I'm your ride all through today",
Li Wen said getting back on her bike and Xiao Yanran happily sat at the back circling her arms round Li Wen's waist as they rode off then releasing a hand to wave goodbye to Mr Chen.
The passageway was filled with students either walking on their own or with friends or leaning at their lockers chatting.
"I can't wait to see what Mr Chen got me", Xiao Yanran said.
"We can open it during lunch time then I'll give you mine", Li Wen said.
"Is it the video game from Titan Core?", Xiao Yanran asked.
"Yes but remember I said I'd give you a test to see if you've gotten any improvements",
Li Wen said but suddenly the passageway went quiet. Students froze as two gorgeous boys on the school's uniform walked into the passageway.
They were tall, really handsome and looked identical.
"Are they twins"
"they're really handsome",
" they're in our school uniform, they must be new students",
murmurs kept spreading. Yu Han and her two bully friends Rou Xi and Shu Ying couldn't help pushing dangles of their hairs to the side as the two boys walked past them. Eyes were still on them until they disappeared from the passageway into the principal's office.
"Hmmm, why did those boys look somewhat familiar",
Xiao Yanran said and Li Wen rubbed her jaw as she creased her brows.
"I thought I was the only one thinking of where I had seen them, they just look so familiar", Li Wen said but shrugged.
"What ever, let's hope those cuties get to one of our classes",
Li Wen said and Xiao Yanran rolled her eyes as they walked off.
The class was noisy, some students seating on their desks chatting, some standing at corners of the class with their friends while as usual, Xiao Yanran sat alone.
Li Wen and Xiao Yanran though in the same grades had different classes so she had no one to talk to clearly because no one found her worthy enough to talk to. To them she was a complete loser who they didn't think they should waste their time chatting with.
Finally the class went quiet the moment the teacher stepped in with the two gorgeous twins. Those standing were immediately seated.
"we have new transfer students, boys introduce yourselves to the class", the teacher said.
"I'm Xu Jun"
"I'm Xu Yun",
they said before going to have their seats. The girls in the class began shoving empty seats beside them hoping to be their seatmates but shocking enough they sat beside Xiao Yanran.
Xu Jun at her right and Xu Yun at her left keeping Xiao Yanran in the middle. Even Xiao Yanran was shocked herself and she could feel the deadly glares on her from the girls especially from Yu Han and her two bully friends.
The class remained quiet All through lectures until finally it was lunch time.
The students finally let out the noise they had been holding in as they chatted while heading to the cafeteria but Xiao Yanran still sat there.
"Aren't you going to the cafeteria?",
Xu Jun asked and Xiao Yanran shook her head but didn't say anything. The twins turned to look at each other then back at her then back at themselves again. They didn't need to say anything, the question was already clear on their faces. Were they sure they had the right girl. Xu Jin had shown them her picture and the girl here was exactly the one in the picture.
"What's your name?"
Xu Yun asked relaxing his elbows on the table and bending his head a little to see her face since she had her head faced downwards obviously shy.
"Xiao Yanran",
she said with a very low volume bending her face down even more almost like Xu Jun and Xu Yun were bullying her.
They couldn't believe this was the girl Lei Zhang was attracted to, they had really thought Lei Zhang's story was going to be like the movies. An agile and domineering girl disciplines the disciplinarian but this girl was definitely not the girl they had imagined.
Li Wen walked into the class and seeing Li Wen, Xiao Yanran immediately dashed out of her seat with her bag pack grabbing Li Wen's hand and hurriedly leaving the class, leaving Xu Jun and Xu Yun dumbfounded at their seats.
Li Wen and Xiao Yanran settled at a table in the cafeteria and Xiao Yanran hurriedly zipped open her bag pack excitedly bringing out the present box Mr Chen had given her.
"Geez, slow down birthday girl, what's the rush",
Li Wen said and Xiao Yanran chuckled riping the box open and taking out a headphone.
"Wow, that looks quite expensive", Li Wen said.
"Where's yours",
Xiao Yanran asked and Li Wen scoffed.
"Hold your horses, remember, a test first",
Li Wen said taking out a sheet of paper and a pen from her pocket then writing down something in it before passing it over to Xiao Yanran.
"Let's see how good your home tutor is",
Li Wen said and Xiao Yanran took the paper looking at the questions that Li Wen had written and a smile curved on her face. The exact topic she and Lei Zhang had been working on for some days now.
She immediately began solving them and in few minutes she was done.
"Here",
Xiao Yanran said passing the paper back to Li Wen. Seeing the correct answers, Li Wen was impressed and dropped the paper back on the table.
"I guess quiting your job wasn't a waste after all",
Li Wen said opening her bag pack and bringing out a big box packet still sealed in glossy plastic wrap. It's obvious it hadn't been opened since it was bought.
Xiao Yanran's eyes lit up seeing the box, her eyes on the bold title at the top written "Zombie slaughter" then down to the large art work of zombies walking with the city behind them then, her eyes finally moved to the logo "Titan Core Games".
She excitedly reached out to take it but it was suddenly snatched by someone else.
"Wow, this looks nice",
Yu Han who had grabbed it said admiring the box.
"Give that back",
Li Wen said and Yu Han rolled her eyes.
"No need to be harsh, I'm just admiring it",
Yu Han said and Li Wen angrily stood up faced directly to Yu Han. She reached out to grab the box from Yu Han but Yu Han immediately threw the box at Rou Xi who stood a few feets away from them.
"I said give that back!",
Li Wen said getting pissed as she walked over to Rou Xi but Rou Xi immediately threw it towards Shu Ying who was also feets away.
Shu Ying had reached out her hands ready to catch the box that came flying towards her but a tall hand suddenly stretched out from behind her catching the box instead.
Shu Ying turned back about to yell at the person who had dared to interfere but her words got stuck in her mouth when she saw it was Xu Jun.
Shu Ying immediately pulled strands of her hair behind her ear trying to put on an adorable look but was suddenly shoved aside by Yu Han who also tried faking an adorable face.
"Can I have that back please",
she said with a sweet voice.
"Is it yours",
Xu Jun asked and Yu Han scratched her nape suddenly finding her words.
"I guess not"
Xu Jun said throwing the box at Li Wen who immediately caught it then he left the cafeteria with Xu Yun who had been leaning on the wall at the entrance.
The cafeteria had suddenly gone quiet, it had been noisy especially when Yu Han was throwing the game around entertaining the students who were laughing but the moment Xu Jun caught it everyone suddenly went silent. After they left, the cafeteria slowly returned to normal. TBC.
