Today is the day students get to go to Jericho in mass. Today is Outreach Day. The students were told to gather in the quad to receive their volunteer job duties for Outreach Day. Naturally they were also told the rules and be on their best behavior while staying in Jericho. And with that explanation, the students were given their assignments and moved towards the shuttle buses to begin their journey to Jericho.
I also received my job duties and told to see Principal Weems before heading to Jericho. I looked where I'll be volunteering and it's the Weathervane.
I thought, "Perfect."
I went towards the principal's office and knocked on the door before entering. Principal Weems looked up at me and told me to take a seat.
She asked, "How goes the investigation? Any new leads or developments?"
I replied, "Not much. I still need to confirm Tyler's involvement later when we get to Jericho as well if he is that "creature" I fought off that night. Also I assume that you know about Wednesday's visions, correct? It seems like she's involved with Joseph Crackstone in a portrait that was drawn by Rowan's mother when she was still a student here. I don't know what it means but I'll keep digging with Wednesday."
Principal Weems is in thought from the information provided by Y/N. After digesting the information, she told me to keep investigating and be careful with Tyler as he is the sheriff's son and having any altercation with the sheriff means we'll have less support from them when the situation turns south.
Principal Weems declared, "I also took the liberty of assigning you to play a piece for us."
I widened my eyes and was about to speak when she continued, "After all, your skills with the piano are very well received here in Nevermore. I was going to recommend Ms. Addams but I believe she'll cause the school trouble so I could only rely on you to promote the school in a positive way."
I was dumbfounded but I just took a long breath and sighed, "Alright, I'll perform for you but do allow me to perform some investigation at night. I don't believe the culprit would move during the day."
Principal Weems agreed to my request and told me I could leave and meet up with the rest of the students.
I walked towards the shuttle buses and met up with Enid. We found a seat together and chatted while waiting for the bus to fill up. Enid was super excited to go to Pilgrim World as it was the same destination Wednesday was assigned too.
Enid also expressed to me that the boat was ready and with some advice from Wednesday, the boat was armed with some defenses in case Bianca or the other teams tried to do something to them.
After a while, I saw Wednesday get on the bus. She looked around before finding me and Enid sitting in the far back of the shuttle. She came over to us and was a little more reserved than usual. Wednesday sat to the left of me while Enid was sitting to my right.
I thought to myself, "She must still be thinking of what happened last night when I left her there."
Chuckling from the thought, I told the girls I'll be napping for a bit and to wake him up when they arrive at Jericho. They both nodded and saw that I closed my eyes and finally drifted to sleep.
While I was sleeping, both girls looked at each other and nodded and slowly held my hands. Feeling the warmth from Y/N put them at ease and enjoyed the silence and peaceful atmosphere between the three of them.
Enid whispered to Wednesday, "So...you found the time to let him know your feelings for him? Let me know okay? I wanna be there so I could confess as well so we all can be together."
Wednesday replied quietly, "Not yet but I did tell him I wanted to inform him after the Poe Cup so that we could focus on the investigation at hand together. And are you sure you want to share Y/N?"
Enid smiled and whispered back, "I don't care if Y/N has many mates seeing as he's super strong, handsome, caring, and understanding. I could not find a better mate than him. I know that I couldn't keep him for myself so I'm glad that you liked him too Wednesday. I trust you."
Wednesday had never been trusted as much as Enid and Y/N. She made up her mind to take more chances with them and involve more of her deeper thoughts. She revealed to Enid she had been having frequent visions ever since she arrived in Nevermore and those visions are triggered by random occurrence due to physical touch of a person or an object or a location.
Enid took all this information in stride and continued to ask more about it. The whole conversation continued as the buses went towards Jericho. The last five minutes was spent in silence as both girls kept hold of Y/N's hands on each side. Those few minutes felt longer for the two girls.
The bus had slowly arrived at Jericho. The students have started to leave the bus while Wednesday and Enid finally woke up Y/N.
I slowly opened my eyes and yawned and said, "That was a great nap."
I looked at the two girls and said, "Thank you for waking me. Oh there will be a surprise later when we all gather later. I hope you both will enjoy it."
I walked out of the bus smiling while Wednesday and Enid had question marks over their heads. All three of us went to the center of town and saw everyone waiting for the mayor and Principal Weems to finish their speeches. We were told to meet up here again at one o'clock for the performances.
I turned to Wednesday and Enid and said, "I'll be heading to the Weathervane to help make some drinks. So if you guys have any requests later, feel free to tell me and I'll make them for you."
I looked at Wednesday and said, "Regarding Joseph Crackstone, it's best to look around Pilgrim World if he had any personal relics to find more history about him. Take care."
I waved goodbye to them and headed to the Weathervane. I went to the counter and handed my volunteer job slip to the hostess. She told me to grab an apron and start wiping down some tables and restock on the ice and coffee beans to be grinded later.
I started my work and found that Xavier was also volunteering here. Both of us glanced for a second and minded our business. While I was wiping a table, I sensed a gaze toward me and it was Tyler and what do you know he looked like he was jumped by someone. I also sense the Shadow Seed on his shadow which just confirmed my theory of him being the creature.
"Well well well seems like we found our little monster and from the malicious gaze I'm feeling he's pretty angry. Not that any of that matters," I thought.
I ignored Tyler's gaze and kept working till it was a quarter to one o'clock. I left the Weathervane with a drink and went to the center of town where Jericho High and Nevermore students were waiting for the performances to start. I was then told by a student that I will be performing at the end to finish it off. I nodded and headed to the piano after.
Wednesday and Enid walked towards the town center where a statue of Crackstone was erected and surprisingly Eugene tagged in with the two. They saw Y/N leaning on one of the benches drinking some coffee. They all walked towards Y/N and greeted him.
I turned around and saw the three of them and said, "I'm surprised to see Eugene here with you guys. How was Pilgrim World? Any clues?"
Enid cheerfully responded, "Oh it was great! We got assigned giving fudge to the tourists. I tasted some too. It was great but Eugene a little too many and got sick. Oh! Oh! Oh! Wednesday saved Eugene from three boys about to lock him in a weird lock thing."
Wednesday chimed in, "It was a pillory, used long ago to imprison offenders for public abuse. Eugene reminds me of my brother Pugsley. Soft and weak but still loyal. Regarding clues, I found out a book called Codex Umbrarum was stolen and was replaced with a replica. I also saw a painting with what looked like me holding the codex. Apparently the original barnhouse was not in Pilgrim World and somewhere else in Jericho."
I thought about the clues and replied back, "Hmm the "Book of Shadows" huh? That is a good clue. I'll send my knights to scout around the town and any nearby abandoned locations to see if there's any sketchy places nearby. Great work Wednesday."
Wednesday smirked and Enid was happy to listen while Eugene was confused about the whole thing. I'll have to explain to Eugene later when we get back to Nevermore. The performances started and it lasted a while.
Principal Weems came up on stage and introduced, "May we have Mr. Y/N Ashborn up on stage to play a piano piece for us to end our Outreach Day."
I looked at the three of them and said, "I guess that's my que. I hope you guys like it."
I walked towards the stage and passed Principal Weems and nodded towards her. I sat and played River Flows in You by Yiruma on the piano. The slow melodious tunes from the piano reverberated around the students and onlookers.
The audience started to feel the story behind the music as if the tunes had brought them a new world filled with warmth and beauty. The melody slowly finished and I stood up and bowed. The audience stood up and applauded both from the students to the residents of Jericho. As I walked to Wednesday and Enid and Eugene, Outreach Day had ended.
