Chapter 70 - Stormfront Rising

Morning in Dawnview smelled like fresh bread, damp grass, and the faint crackle of Arcial's morning-static stretching session.

The entire team gathered just outside Kipp & Mira's workshop, weapons polished, spirits rested, Ether glowing like a soft lantern over Sofia's shoulder.

A system chime echoed through the sky.

> WORLD EVENT: AZURE STORMFRONT — PRELUDE

For the next 48 hours: • Azure Wilds treasure nodes have increased. • Rare chests are spawning across Dawnview region. • Storm-aligned monsters roaming outside normal zones. • Spirit bond EXP slightly increased.

Recommendation: Gather resources before Azure Hollow unlocks.

Aria squinted up at the glowing text.

"A treasure event? YES. Finally something that doesn't try to kill us."

Arcial growled softly.

Hayes deadpanned, "Aria, chests CAN try to kill you."

"They can't ALL try to kill you."

"Most can."

Aria opened her mouth—

Ether bonked her.

Hayley giggled.

Lumi Reacts… Dramatically

Lumi, perched smugly on Riley's shoulder, froze.

Then he lit up.

Literally.

Like someone had stuffed a lantern spirit full of fireworks.

SHIIIIIING.

Rezion shielded his eyes. "Wh—why is he glowing like that?!"

Riley sighed, amused. "He's… reacting to the event."

"What does that mean?" Sofia asked.

"It means," Riley said, lifting Lumi gently off his shoulder, "he's basically a walking treasure detector for the next two days."

Aria grabbed Riley's arms.

"WE—ARE—GOING—TO—BE—RICH."

Ether bonked her again.

"OW—OKAY—WE'LL BE NICELY RICH."

Lumi spun in the air, leaving a little trail of excited sparkles that absolutely meant follow me, peasants.

Riley clapped his hands together.

"Alright. Full team sweep. The Wilds first, then the ridge, then the outer cliffs. Twelve-hour circuit, back before sundown."

Everyone nodded.

Almost everyone.

Luna had hopped out of Riley's Soulspace the moment he logged in. Now she sat beside his boot, head tilted, tiny lunar horn glowing faintly.

Riley knelt.

"Luna," he said gently, "I need to rotate the team today. Only two spirits per player. Lumi's required… and Arcial helps with the storm anomalies."

Luna blinked.

Then blinked again.

Then simply nodded, hopped into Riley's hand, and curled into a small sparkly ball for him to place back into his Soulspace.

No drama.

No sadness.

Just a cooperative little moon creature doing her job.

Aria stared. "Why can't MY spirits be that chill?"

Dot clicked pointedly.

Ether fluttered judgmentally.

"Okay—okay! Fine! SOME of my spirits are chill."

Riley stood, dusting off his hands.

"Today's focus—treasure, resources, and power jumps. So—pairing assignments."

He pointed around the circle.

Hayes & Hayley sweep of southern Wilds. "Stick near the cliffs. Storm wolves spawn there early."

Sofia & Aria You two cover Verdant Overhang. Ether's cleanse should help with corruption patches. Aria—don't aggro anything bigger than Ether."

Ether bonked Aria before Riley even finished talking.

Rezion & Kalyani You two sweep the northern ridgeline. Wisp clusters spawn at high points—Rezion might get another frost variant."

Kalyani pumped a fist. "FIRE GECKO ROUND TWO LET'S GO—"

Rezion sighed.

Jonathan slapped his shield with surprising confidence. "Stoneback needs some XP. Tiger too. I'll handle the rocky zones."

He didn't mention the hidden quest reward still rumbling proudly in his Soulspace.

"I'll roam central Wilds with Lumi and Arcial. We need catalyst materials before Azure Hollow phase two."

Aria squinted at him. "Translation: Riley wants to fight mini-bosses alone again."

Riley gave her a blank stare.

"That's slander."

Kalyani crossed her arms. "Is it wrong?"

"…No," Riley admitted.

Ten minutes later, the entire squad spread out through the forest line.

Lumi zoomed forward like a tiny glowing compass needle.

"Left! No—right! No—straight—"

Everyone scrambled after him.

A moment later—

DING! A RARE CHEST HAS BEEN FOUND

Hidden under a tree root.

A blue-silver coffer with swirling storm patterns.

Aria slid to a stop. "HOW do you see these?!"

Lumi shrugged smugly. Or approximated a shrug. Impossible to tell.

Riley opened the chest.

> CHEST REWARD: •

4 Azure Thread

2 Stormglass Shards

• A recipe scroll — Stormforged Gauntlets (Uncommon)

Jonathan inhaled. "Those are perfect for my build."

Riley tossed him the scroll. "Exactly why we're doing this."

The next chest was 40 meters away.

The next one… 30 meters after that.

The third…

Aria stared at Lumi like he was a god of wealth.

"Riley. Riley. Riley. I am adopting Lumi."

"No."

"Sharing Lumi?"

"No."

"Stealing Lumi—"

Ether bonked her from across the clearing.

"OW—HOW DO YOU DO THAT FROM THAT FAR?!"

Dot flared her legs threateningly at Ether again.

Ether immediately backpedaled in apology.

Riley pinched the bridge of his nose.

"We've been out here for ten minutes," he muttered. "Ten."

Twenty minutes in, a storm anomaly flickered through the trees—wisps of blue lightning swirling in place.

A cluster of Storm Sprites materialised, eyes crackling.

Kalyani shouted from across the ridge, "REZION DON'T TOUCH THAT—"

Rezion touched it.

The sprites swarmed him.

Ice Husky barked in panic.

Riley sighed, raised Dawnstring—

TWANG

A Dawnburst Volley detonated in mid-air, scattering lightning like glowing feathers.

Arcial leapt through the remnants, tail charged, claws sparking.

Two sprites evaporated.

Rezion blinked. "I… had that under control."

"Sure," Kalyani said, patting his head.

Late afternoon light filtered through the canopy when Lumi froze again—this time brighter.

He pointed dramatically at the base of a giant fallen log.

Riley raised a brow.

"A group chest?"

They pried moss aside.

A large azure coffer sat embedded in the trunk, humming with energy.

Everyone gathered around.

Aria rubbed her hands. "Okay okay—no whammies—no curses—no mimics—"

The lid opened—

> GROUP REWARD:

12 Azure Wilds Cache •

Storm Essence

6 Aether Petal

10 Verdant Resin

• Three random recipes: – Windlace Boots (Uncommon)

– Aether-Cleanse Salve (Rare)

– Stormcall Quiver (Rare)

• Bonus roll: Spirit Treat Bundle

Everyone cheered.

Even Arcial perked up.

Lumi puffed out his chest smugly.

Aria grabbed Riley and shook him. "WE ARE NEVER LETTING HIM GO."

Ether tapped her forehead gently.

"…sorry," Aria mumbled.

Ether nodded approvingly.

Dot, watching from Aria's head, gave Ether a microscopic nod of respect.

By the time the sun dipped below the trees, the team's bags were overflowing with event resources.

Rezion had a Frostwing Wisp perched on his staff.

Kalyani had scorch marks but insisted she was "close" to catching the Fire Gecko.

Jonathan's Stoneback Cub occasionally poked out of his armor like a shy pebble.

Arcial was shedding lightning fur everywhere like a charged cat.

Lumi had the confidence of a man who had just made everyone rich.

Back at the town gates, the sky flickered—blue lightning dancing across gathering storm clouds.

A voice boomed from the system:

> AZURE STORMFRONT — DAY 1 COMPLETE.

Phase 2 begins tomorrow.

Rare bosses appearing.

Treasure density increased.

Azure Hollow dungeon unlocking soon…

Hayes exhaled.

"Tomorrow's going to be rough."

Aria grinned. "Tomorrow's going to be AWESOME."

Sofia adjusted Ether on her shoulder. "Tomorrow… is going to be busy."

Riley looked at Dawnstring glowing faintly on his back.

Arcial growled softly at the sky.

Lumi chimed like a bell.

Riley nodded.

"Then we rest. Because tomorrow—"

He looked out toward the trembling blue clouds.

"—we chase the storm."
