**Jenifer's POV**
I stopped mid-thought, struck by how sharp Dad really was. Since returning home, I hadn't once brought Romano around to visit.
Aiden had clearly pieced together that Romano and I weren't on good terms.
"He's been sickly his whole life. I've done everything I could to care for him, but he thinks I don't treat him as well as everyone else does," I said, skirting around the real problem.
Aiden could fill in the blanks. He'd heard about Romano's health issues from birth, and raising a sick child like that couldn't have been easy.
"You've been through so much," Aiden murmured, placing a comforting hand on my shoulder.
My throat tightened instantly, tears burning behind my eyes.
For the first time in years, someone actually acknowledged what I'd been through.
The Gould had always pointed fingers at me for Romano's poor health, insisting every illness was somehow my fault.
