Jenifer's POV
I curled up close to Mable, playing up the sweet, clingy daughter act.
Aiden's intense gaze stayed locked on me, his brow creased with concern the entire time.
Since I'd gotten hurt, Mable had put her foot down about late nights and overtime, demanding I stay at the Zach house where she could keep an eye on me.
That evening, Mable and I took our usual stroll around the neighborhood.
After our walk, I walked Mable back home. At the bottom of the staircase, Aiden caught my attention, gesturing for me to come over.
Mable noticed and let go of my hand.
"Jenifer, your dad wants to see you. Go ahead and talk with him," Mable said.
I nodded and trailed behind Aiden as he headed up to his study on the second floor.
The moment the study door clicked shut, Aiden gestured toward the leather sofa, clearly expecting me to sit down and make myself comfortable.
I settled into the cushions where he'd pointed, my curiosity piqued. "Dad, what's on your mind?"
