Reed's POV
When I first spotted her earlier, I'd planned to check how her hand was healing, but somehow we ended up fighting again instead.
Lorelei came back to my side, finding me lost in thought while nursing my drink. I barely acknowledged the people who tried to chat with me. She politely made excuses for my behavior, then touched my arm lightly to pull me back to the present.
I blinked, looking at her with confusion.
"Are you thinking about Jenifer?" Lorelei asked softly. "I noticed Miss Randal left with her. Maybe after tonight's over, you could ask Mr. Randal which hospital they went to and go see her?"
I thought about it—she had a point. "Thanks, Lorelei," I said quietly.
She smiled. "Don't mention it. If you hadn't brought me tonight, I never would've met that investor. Otherwise, my father would just keep pushing me toward some ancient creep he wants me to marry."
Guilt twisted in my chest. "If your dad tries forcing you into anything again, come find me."
