The explosive online gossip about me supposedly stealing someone's mistress had suddenly become the center of attention for everyone present.
When people looked at Lorelei's expression, the pieces fell into place. She was the notorious other woman who had allegedly wrecked my marriage.
The crowd's warmth toward Lorelei evaporated instantly.
Gone was the friendliness they'd shown her just minutes before.
Callan and Eliza, nudged by their companions, rushed over to discover Romano sobbing, looking wounded and pitiful.
Eliza's heart ached seeing him like that. She dropped to her knees immediately, pulled Romano close, then shot a glance at Lorelei, demanding to know what had transpired.
Lorelei stayed evasive, offering only a brief explanation of events.
The moment Eliza learned Romano had collided with me, her expression darkened.
Eliza jumped to her feet, assuming her authoritative stance. "Jenifer, Romano barely grazed you. Must you make such a scene?"
