Chapter 13 - Repetition

"NUMBER 11 HAS SCORED ON KANADE!!! IS THIS A FLUKE?! IS KANADE EVEN TRYING?! MAYBE THE PRODIGY ISN'T AS GOOD AS EVERYONE HAS HYPED HIM UP TO BE!"

I kicked the ball to Yoichi and he dashed at the speed of light. I rushed to the right top corner of the box but Kanade stayed by my side, not even giving me a glance. Instead, he stared at Yoichi with the focus of an eagle watching its prey. Even though he was only looking at one thing it felt like he could see everything. All of the defenders covered Jaylon and he stayed by my side, leaving Yoichi wide open. He looked around and passed it to a teammate who kicked the ball full force and scored.

"Hm." Kanade said. I looked over at Kanade and raised an eyebrow. What the hell is he doing? Why did he do that? Why did he leave Yoichi open? He walked over to get ready for kick off but I couldn't hold back my impatience. I grabbed onto Kanade's arm and tugged at it. "What the hell are you doing dude?" "Pretty obvious dude." He said before walking away.

What the hell is he doing? Wasn't Kanade taught to defeat his opponents as quickly as he can? What changed? What does he gain from this? Or maybe…he's just not good enough. Maybe we're just that good. No one would lose on purpose, he's just trying to hide it.

Kickoff began and Kanade passed it over to his teammate. His teammate came running towards me but I quickly stole the ball away. Kanade crashed into and knocked me off balance but I tipped the ball away from him and kicked it backwards to Yoichi. My shining ray of hope flashed past all the defenders and Kanade began to loosen up his defense. As Yoichi prepared to pass to me, I prepared my foot for a devastating goal. But Kanade crashed into me again, Yoichi kicked the ball full force. Using my height to my advantage I grabbed onto Kanade's jersey and jumped up to kick the ball back to Yoichi. He trapped the ball and immediately lobbed it up. Kanade looked around but couldn't find me as I glided into the sky in order to shoot the ball into the net.

With the score being 3-0, there was nothing to worry about but absolute victory.
