Lavayla barely had time to draw a breath before the air around them grew still.
Then, from somewhere beyond sight, faint strands of light began to appear.
At first, they were thin and distant, like threads caught in a current. Then more followed, gathering from every direction. They drifted slowly through the open space, pale and luminous.
Lavayla's arm tightened slightly around Vai, but before she could react further, the strands reached her.
They did not touch her skin instead, they passed through it.
A soft warmth spread through her body as the first thread sank into her lower abdomen. It did not hurt. It did not even feel intrusive.
Her breath caught as more light followed.
Thread after thread slipped into her, gathering deep within her core. The warmth deepened, settling, condensing steadily. It did not overflow. It did not surge. It simply… remained.
Her eyelids grew heavy.
