Chapter 37 - Chapter 36: Ryuya Officially Takes Charge of the Lower Moons

Ryuya shot Gyokko a playful glance.

Gyokko, completely unaware he was being mocked, eagerly smiled back.

Ryuya returned a faint smile before shifting his gaze toward his dear father—

Muzan Kibutsuji.

…Oh.

Why was Father cross-dressing again?

Muzan wore an elegant black kimono. Crimson lips gleamed like fresh blood. His chin was lifted high as he looked down at the Lower Moons with open disdain.

Objectively speaking—

The look suited him.

Until he opened his mouth.

The moment he spoke, the combination of that face and that voice produced an indescribable eeriness.

"Young Master Ryuya, has my music improved?"

Nakime lowered her gaze slightly, cheeks faintly flushed.

She had practiced diligently.

She still remembered that moonlit night when she played, and Ryuya had slept peacefully.

He had looked… beautiful.

Even asleep.

"It has improved a great deal."

Ryuya nodded mildly.

Nakime's lips curved faintly.

"I will continue to work harder."

Gyokko blinked.

Why did that exchange feel so… strange?

It made sense.

And yet, it didn't.

"Wu Ya?"

Muzan suddenly noticed him.

The Lower Moons stiffened.

Wu Ya?

Who?

Why did their master sound slightly tense?

"Father."

Ryuya bowed respectfully.

"Come down."

Muzan's tone carried a faint awkwardness.

Originally, he had chosen this form casually for the meeting.

But now—

His own son was here.

Being seen like this by Ryuya… was mildly humiliating.

Below, the Lower Moons' thoughts churned wildly.

Father?

He has a Nichirin blade?

Is he a member of the Demon Slayer Corps?

No… that aura is demonic.

Master Muzan has a son?!

Curiosity burned.

"I went pot shopping with Gyokko," Ryuya answered calmly when asked what he'd been doing.

"Pot shopping?"

Muzan's brows knit.

So Gyokko was exposed? Useless thing.

Outwardly, however, he smiled.

"Ryuya, since you're here… you've grown. It's time you helped your father."

Ah.

Another assignment.

Even your own son isn't spared, huh?

Ryuya's internal eye-roll was spectacular.

"From now on, you will manage the Lower Moons."

Muzan patted his shoulder.

"I expect results."

Inheritance of the family business already?

A bit early, don't you think?

But Ryuya bowed.

"Yes, Father."

Below—

The Lower Moons reacted instantly.

Lower Rank One — Enmu

What a fascinating scent… not one of the Twelve Kizuki, yet so intoxicating… I'm already captivated, Young Master Ryuya…

Lower Rank Three — Wakuraba

Is he strict? Easygoing? Hard to tell…

Lower Rank Four — Mukago

So handsome… he resembles Lord Muzan so much… if only I could serve directly under him…

Her face flushed.

Lower Rank Five — Rui

Master's son… he must be powerful. I need to adjust quickly.

Lower Rank Six — Kyougai

His aura rivals the Upper Ranks… perhaps he'll appreciate my work.

Muzan listened to their thoughts, satisfaction blooming within him.

Perfect.

Now he no longer had to waste time lecturing these disappointments.

And—

Keeping Ryuya occupied meant less time for him to wander.

Two birds.

One stone.

"Introduce yourselves to my son," Muzan ordered.

Silence.

No one moved.

Naturally, they wanted someone else to test the waters first.

Ryuya smiled gently.

"Who would like to go first?"

His demeanor was approachable.

Almost warm.

"…M-me?"

Mukago raised her hand nervously.

"Of course. Don't be nervous."

He smiled faintly.

Her heart skipped.

He looked at me for three whole seconds!

"Young Master Ryuya, I am Mukago. I will obey any command."

"Mm. I understand."

Cute.

Reserved.

Not as fiery as Daki—but serviceable.

She retreated, relieved.

Next—

Wakuraba stepped forward.

"Young Master, I am Wakuraba. I will serve faithfully."

"Good. Next."

Was that approval?

Disapproval?

Impossible to read.

Then Kyougai stepped up eagerly, presenting a manuscript.

"Young Master, I am Kyougai. I write. This is my work."

Ah.

Ambition.

Ryuya accepted it, skimmed briefly, then smiled pleasantly.

"You write well."

Kyougai brightened.

"Don't write again."

…What?

Silence fell.

Ryuya's smile didn't change.

"What is this? Even dogs wouldn't read it. They'd shake their heads."

Kyougai froze completely.

Psychological warfare.

Ryuya wasn't like Muzan.

Muzan crushed through fear.

Ryuya?

He destabilized.

Measured reactions.

Calculated approval.

Sudden criticism.

The Lower Moons could not grasp his emotional rhythm.

And that—

Made him far more terrifying.
