Chapter 70 - Chapter Sixty-Nine: The Parliament (Part Two)

After listening to Councilman Kote and Nehaal, Chancellor Valorum asked the Yamri people to begin their statement, to confirm if these claims were true.

Kote, Nehaal, and Spider returned to their original positions, while the Yamri people began to quibble and distort the facts.

"Fellow citizens and friends of the Galaxy, and great Chancellor, everything they said is an illusion, even a distortion of the facts. The truth is, they attacked us! We only wanted to help them progress, but they turned around and blamed us. We were forced to retaliate!" The Yamri people displayed their holographic projection.

The councilors began to whisper, unsure whether to believe the Yamri people or the Kaili people and Mandalorians.

Both sides had presented evidence that favored them, but it was all just their word against the other's.

After the Yamri people's holographic projection finished playing, Kote hadn't even started to curse, but Nehaal could no longer bear it and wanted to rush forward to kill the Yam'ri representative directly. Spider also couldn't sit still; this was a complete reversal of right and wrong!

Kote motioned for them to calm down, stating that in the Galactic Council, one spoke with words. He then stepped forward again, "I presume, Yam'ri representative, you have finished speaking?" Kote inquired.

"Yes, I have. Councilman Kote, do you have any objections?" the Yam'ri representative asked.

"Nothing much. I just wanted to ask, assuming what you said is true, does that mean the matter of slave trading is simply skipped over?" Kote looked at the Yamri people.

"No, no, no, this..." The Yamri people tried to retort but were directly interrupted by Kote.

"Let me finish! Are those atrocities just being overlooked? Are all those things you massacred and plundered just being overlooked?" Kote pressed the Yamri people opposite him.

"They were in the wrong first! We were acting in self-defense!" the Yam'ri representative shouted, maintaining the stalemate.

"So, what you mean is that it all happened? Look, my dear fellow citizens of the Republic, these are the Yamri people!" Kote pointed at the Yamri people opposite him.

"Order!" Just as Kote was about to continue, the Vice Speaker directly interrupted him, as there was no telling what else he might say if he kept going.

Chancellor Valorum directly motioned for both of them not to get agitated. "If that is the case, then the Jedi Order shall be dispatched to investigate this matter. We will now proceed with a vote." Valorum asked the two.

But both of them refused.

"Chancellor, the Republic must immediately halt this behavior, otherwise, out of humanitarianism, I will fund the Kaili people!" Kote declared this and then fell silent. After all, even if the Jedi arrived, they would only mediate, but once the Jedi left, the invasion would simply continue.

"Chancellor, you see, this is a blatant threat. He even wants to invade the Yamri people. Perhaps this is all a plan by the Mandalorians to invade us; it's all their scheme!" The Yam'ri representative placed a huge accusation on Kote and Mandalore.

Kote now had the urge to strangle him, but Chancellor Valorum's words stopped him: "Councilman Kote, do not utter such words. For freedom and democracy, the Republic will certainly regulate this matter."

"The Jedi Order will dispatch personnel to investigate, and Councilman Kote will accompany them as an overseer. During this period, the Yamri people must cease all attacks!" Valorum finally delivered his decision.

"The Chancellor is wise," Kote finally agreed, without even needing a vote.

"Damn it!" the Yamri people cursed under their breath.

"Then the next proposal is..." The Vice Speaker then read out the next proposal.

As the next proposal began, Kote and the Yamri people both withdrew. Seeing that the following matters had nothing to do with him, Kote left the platform and returned to his office.

A few hours later, the Council concluded its session. A councilor knocked on the door, preparing to enter.

"Councilman Kote, are you there? I am Bail Organa, the councilor from Alderaan," a tall man walked in.

Upon hearing who it was, Kote quickly stood up. For him, Senator Organa was someone he greatly admired, who had established the Rebel Alliance to fight against the Empire under its oppressive rule, and was also a staunch egalitarian, leading many to the cause of justice.

"Please come in, Senator Organa. I've heard of your great name even in the Outer Rim," Kote walked over and motioned for Senator Organa to sit on the sofa.

"You flatter me, Councilman Kote. I've seen your actions; on your very first day as a councilor, you did something that could save millions of lives," Senator Organa praised.

"It's nothing. This is for fairness and justice, and it's what I should do. I imagine Senator Organa would do the same," Kote smiled.

"You are too modest, Councilman Kote. However, if you encounter any difficulties or have any matters, you can contact me. This is my private communication. I won't disturb you further," Senator Organa handed his channel to Kote and then left.

No sooner had Senator Organa left than Palpatine walked in. "This is truly excellent news, Councilman Kote. I didn't expect the Chancellor to be so decisive in settling this matter this time," Palpatine said happily.

However, what he was actually thinking was completely different. Kote should have seen the Republic's shortcomings, seen Chancellor Valorum's inaction! Why had his personality changed? But on the surface, he offered congratulations.

"I originally thought it would still require a vote," Kote said.

"But you weren't there when I came to see you last night. Were you out enjoying the night view of Coruscant?" Palpatine had indeed come once yesterday, but Kote had gone to the Jedi Temple then.

"Last night? I went to the Jedi Temple. After all, I had wanted to join the Jedi Order before, but they rejected me due to my age. Yesterday, I wanted to show them what the consequences of rejecting me were!" Kote snorted coldly.

Palpatine was overjoyed. Had he started to dislike the Jedi on his own, without any guidance! Jedi Order, your doom is nigh!

Although he was very happy, Palpatine couldn't show it and could only say, "So what did you do?"

"I had a great battle with several Jedi Knights and then defeated them," Kote immediately began to boast. After all, there were no spies of Palpatine in the Jedi Temple, so he might as well say something Palpatine wanted to hear. Even if Palpatine knew he was lying, it wouldn't be a problem; Palpatine would only think he was bragging to a friend.

Palpatine then understood. No wonder Kote's Dark Side was growing stronger; it was the power of hatred.

"I never thought, Councilman Kote, that you had such an experience, but the Jedi Order exists to protect the Galaxy, so it's best not to take such actions," Palpatine advised Kote to calm down.

"Of course, I understand, Senator Palpatine. It's because you are my friend that I tell you these things," Kote looked at the Sith.

"Of course, my friend, but you must be careful. The Galaxy still needs people with a sense of justice like you. I wish you good luck on your journey to Kalee," Palpatine said sincerely.

"I certainly will, my friend." Kote felt that Palpatine already considered him half a usable pawn.
