Chapter 1 - 1- Wait what? So I'm dead now?

A leaf fluttered past him, carried by the autumn breeze. Samuel sighed ignoring it . Watching his foggy breath, he considered his options.

"Cappuccino or latte?" he muttered. He tried to remember what his best friend said. He cursed internally, trying to remember, but it seemed the fog had come from his brain. Admitting defeat, he pulled out his phone, about to call his friend.

But then something made him stop. He immediately froze and looked up from his phone. In front of him was a large, glowing, blue apparition of a wolf, its eyes fixed on him. There was something in its eyes. It looked like…hunger. That was the first thing Samuel noticed. The second was no one had noticed the large animal, but everyone had subconsciously parted the way, leaving no obstructions between him and the wolf. He knew it was targeting him and weighed his options, but there weren't a lot of those.

He took a step back, and it followed him, telling a step forward, the hunger in its eyes intensifying. He immediately turned and ran as fast as he could, pushing people out of the way. He pushed his muscles, running like never before. He looked back and immediately regretted it. The wolf was closing in. He tried to run faster but it was no use.

A few seconds later he felt claws digging into his skin, and a warm liquid trickling down his back. He collapsed onto the ground. The cold was almost... comforting. He heard muffled screams and for once didn't care. He allowed the darkness to swallow his consciousness...going deeper...and deeper....and deeper...below....

Samuel woke up with a start. He spat out the sand from his mou-

Wait... sand? he thought. He stood up and looked around. There was nothing but sand as afar as he could see. He checked his pockets for his phone but it wasn't there. He also realized he wasn't wearing his coat anymore.

" Ok, calm down. There had to be a perfectly reasonable explanation for this," he said to himself. He stood up and looked around again. Still nothing. He tried to think of what to do but his mind came blank.

All of a sudden he saw something in the distance. It was a light. Filling up with hope again, he started running towards it.But as he ran towards it, he noticed something strange about the light. Sensing something was wrong, he slowed down. As it got closer, he realized it looked like a plasma ray out of a sci-fi movie. He immediately turned and started running but it was too fast for him to outrun. At the last second he jumped out of the way, the heat burning a hole into his sleeve.

Samuel stood up quickly and scanned the area the attack had come from, but there was nothing. Feeling the need to investigate, he started heading in the direction the ray came from. About an hour later he came face to face with a girl plunging her dagger into a middle-aged man's chest. As soon as the man hit the ground she pointed the bloody curved dagger at him.

"Who are you and what do you want?" she said, with an air of malice. Samuel knew one wrong answer and he would end up the same as the man.

"Calm down, I just want to know where the closest town is. By the way those are some great props," he said casually.

"What do you mean by 'props'?" she asked slightly confused.

"Wow, those are some amazing acting skills. Any movies you've acted in recently. I feel like I've seen you before," he continued. Before he could blink, she put the knife directly on his neck.

"Stop talking gibberish and tell me who you are." It seemed like her murderous intent has escalated. Samuel gulped and immediately thought of something.

"Ok, CUT!" he yelled. The girl immediately jumped back and threw the knife at his throat. He narrowly dodged but she quickly pushed him to the ground, retrieved it from the sand and got ready to slice his throat.

"Looks like your powers aren't working at the moment," she said before bringing the knife down on his neck. Then time seemed to slow down. He saw a glint of metal from her waist. Without thinking, he dodged the knife, lunged for the metallic object and pushed her off him. He stood up and looked in his hand to see a small, rusted hunting knife.

"Give...it... back," the girl growled, her eyes burning with rage. He immediately tossed it back to her. After examining it, she sighed in relief. He looked at her and sighed.

"Ok calm down. Why don't we just have a normal conversation without any of the bloodshed. Does that sound good to you?" he asked. The girl looked at him and slowly nodded.

"Fine. But no funny stuff." They both sad down opposite each other.

"I'll start. My name is Samuel Oder. And you are?"

"Austra. Austra Bles. What's your order?" she asked. He looked confused.

"You know, your order. Wait, don't tell me...are you a new soul?" His confusion increased.

"I don't understand what you're saying about what I ordered and 'new soul',"he said.

"What's the last thing you remember before waking up?" she slowly asked.

Samuel thought. "I guess the last thing I remember is a glowing wolf chasing me and killing me."

"Yep. You're definitely a new soul."

"Wait what? So I'm dead now?" She stood up walked over to the corpse of the man, ripped off his blood soaked tattered cloak and his gun bag and threw it to Samuel, along with the plasma gun.

"Come on. I'll explain on the way."
