Chapter 9 - Home Trouble

Dagoku entered the building in which the private hunters worked at. The boss decided to make calls to the client and cuss them out for the wrong info they had sent and how they demanded compensation after the loss. Dagoku decided to sit down and relax somewhere, hopeful to get a few minutes of sleep in. As he sat down on a chair near the locker room, he noticed that the kitten was starting to be fidgety, likely due to hunger. Meanwhile, Dagoku could hear the captain's loud and furious voice through the walls of the other room. Dagoku started feeding the kitten some of the lunch he had bought in the morning and decided to check the time through the watch he had on his wrist.

Dagoku suddenly stood up from the chair he was sitting in, entered the locker room, stuffed his katana in his locker, and bolted straight out of the building, the poor kitten meowing like crazy as Dagoku was dashing away. The time read 2:40 pm, meaning that Emiko's school day was about to be over soon. He dashed through the alleyway, taking a couple of turns here and there, and finally reached Emiko's school just as the other children were coming out.

As Dagoku was waiting for Emiko to come out, he noticed there were crows at the top of the school. This was quite unusual, as most crows usually did not hang out near places with a lot of humans nowadays. What unsettled him even more was that these crows seemed to look directly at him. He felt that the crows where here to warn him about something, as if he was about to die. Suddenly, Dagoku felt something envelop him, snapping him out of his thoughts. He looked down to see a small boy clinging to him. The boy had deep black hair, with ragged clothes and a skin paler than anything he had ever seen. Dagoku had never met this kid in his entire life, yet what caught his attention was the mysterious aura that was being emitted from this kid, and Dagoku had a feeling that this felt familiar.

Before he could question who the kid was, the kid suddenly disappeared, almost as if the boy was never there. Before Dagoku could think too much of it, he heard a familiar voice calling out to him. Emiko was running towards Dagoku, and jumped onto him the second she came close. Dagoku let out a small "oof" before hugging her back.

"Heya, how was school?" Dagoku asked, recovering from the sudden attack made on him.

"It went really good! The teacher asked us to write about our role model, and I started to write about onii chan and how he is the best person in the world!" Emiko said with pride.

"That's nice. So what about me did you write about?" Dagoku questioned while trying not to visibly cringe at the word onii chan.

"I wrote about how he is hardworking, kind, and will do anything Emiko asks him to do!" Emiko responded, beaming.

"Haha…of course," Dagoku said, defeated. They then started to walk through the alleyways, taking turns here and there until they reached the mini marketplace-like alley. Emiko wanted to eat something sweet, so they headed over to one of the vendors and Dagoku bought her some candied apples. Afterwards, they reached their apartment building and entered the elevator. After entering their room, Dagoku helped Emiko take her shoes off and then opened the fanny pack, however the kitten had vanished.

Dagoku panicked, as he did not know where on earth the kitten went, as he clearly remembered the kitten in the fanny pack while he was waiting for Emiko. He quickly left a confused Emiko and ran back to the alleyway. Dagoku tried looking everywhere and was asking everybody if they had seen a kitten anywhere, however nobody had seen any resemblance of an animal all day. He went back to the place where he found the kitten, however when he reached the spot, there was no sign of the kitten anywhere. In fact, there was no sign of the box that the kitten had been found in at all.

Meanwhile, Emiko was sitting at the table, wondering what to do. She was waiting for her onii chan to come back from whatever he had to do, and was a bit annoyed at him for leaving her like this. After all, she wanted to spend as much time as possible with him, due to how he seemed to be always tired and go to bed right as he finished his work. Emiko knew that Dagoku was working some sort of dangerous job, as she had seen him come with countless injuries at times. He would never tell her what he was doing, always dodging the question, making her worried for his safety even more. After all, she nearly lost him once, and she was not willing to take that risk once again.

As Emiko was think about her older brother, she suddenly heard something buzz in the distance. At first, Emiko thought it was a plane or something, as it sounded quite far, however the sound started getting louder and closer quickly. When she looked back, she saw a big, black thing zoom past her. She yelped and fell off her chair, and saw that the attacker was a giant house fly. She saw it zoom all around her building, and for some reason it kept trying to hit her. She panicked and started running around the room, and grabbed the two nearest things, which were two tissue boxes. With this, she tried to squish the house fly by entrapping it in between the two boxes. Unfortunately, the fly was too fast for her to properly hit.

The fly was dodging everything, with its five eyes and being able to detect everything in slow motion. It twirled around the little girl, almost as if it was taunting her. The fly then headed straight towards her, until the girl started to slam the two boxes in her hands together, it being targeted straight at its trajectory. The fly felt the boxes starting to close in, but instead of moving to the side, it decided to face the challenge straight on. The spider felt the tissue boxes getting closer and closer, however, with pure determination, it kept pushing, flapping its wings faster and faster. The boxes were now basically touching the fly, but before it could become mush…the fly barely managed to squish through, the two boxes behind it making a loud noise! The fly flew up, all the way to the ceiling, and dived back down, straight towards the little girl.

"Let's do this one last time. My name is Fly Mcfly. I was born in a trash can, and I did not know who my parents were. But, like a wise man once said, "to exist, you have to fight". So that's what I did. I fought for my life against humans, traps, and ate food from trash cans. I am the writer of my own story, and now, I am the greatest fly that has ever liv-"

The fly was suddenly hit by Dagoku, who had just arrived back from the search and killed the fly with a stick. Dagoku was a little sad, as he was not able to find the kitten that he was looking for. As he wiped the dead fly off of the counter and flushed it down the toilet, he wondered where the kitten could have left. After he got out from the washroom, he was suddenly jumped again by Emiko, who was now clinging to him like usual. He laughed and headed over to the kitchen, trying to prepare dinner, as it was already 6:00 pm.

Meanwhile, in an alleyway, a blue creature could be seen following something, which seems to be footprints of someone's shoes.
