The first Chimera broke from the formation with startling speed, barreling through the first line of defence as if its walls were made of foam and not granite. Its hooves tore through the mud as it lowered its massive head, antlers angled forward like a cluster of spears.
The others followed, splitting apart as they charged in different directions like they'd done this thousands of times before.
Fae's doe-eyes widened, making them look bigger than they already were. But she didn't let her surprise lock her in place. She was already moving, her body stepping in front of Kenneth and driving the butt of her spear into the ground. The weapon snapped upward as she thrust.
