Nina ducked as its antlers swept over her. She rolled through the mud, the top-layer of her uniform soiled with mud. She came up on one knee and threw Daphnis again.
The metallic pin spiralled through the air, sticking the Chimera behind its front leg. The beast stumbled as Nina caught the weapon on its return. She wasn't much of a fighter as she lacked the physical strength of Alexandria, visual awareness of Killian, the precision of Kenneth, and the agility of Fae. But she understood her weapon.
They had been bonded together for a long time. It was precisely because of it that she knew how to survive.
"Come on," she muttered.
The Chimera charged again. Nina threw the pin, the weapon curving as the creature followed it with its eyes, and that was its mistake. Nina had deliberately thrown it wide. The weapon curved behind the beast just as she snapped her fingers.
