As Maya navigated the challenges of pursuing her fashion dreams, she also had to contend with the emotional scars of her past. Her boyfriend and stepsisters betrayal had left her feeling vulnerable and distrustful, making it difficult for her to open up to new relationships.
A year had passed and Maya was 22 years old already. She was happy and content with her life. Today she had to go with Ethan to his parent's house to meet his them. It was his birthday so he was having dinner with his parents. Ethan and Maya were born on the same month, Maya was born on the 1st of October whilst Ethan was born on the 10th of October,and he was turning 25 years old.
He was introducing Maya as his girlfriend to his parents because he was still not ready to tell them that he was actually gay. Moreover they kept pestering to get a girlfriend.
Maya wore a black silk made dress which hugged her body perfectly showing off her curves .She paid it with a pair of heels and a Chanel Mini slim bag. Ethan on the other hand, worw simple pair of black jeans, a black t-shirt and a leather jacket. They drove to his parents house and Maya couldn't help herself but panic ,she felt like his parents will see right through hers and Ethan's lies.
Ethan had already told his parents that he was bringing his girlfriend home so there was no turning back for Maya. He was the only child to his parents, so him having a girlfriend was kind of a big deal to them. His parents had tried to have Children after him but doctors told them they couldn't conceive anymore which was hard for them because they really wanted to have a baby girl.
Ethan's car pulled onto his car parents house, Maya's heart was skittering and bucking like a spooked horse .Mrs Howard, the housekeeper let them both in after they rang the bell twice. She the led both of them to the living room where both Mr and Mrs Matthews were waiting for Ethan and his girlfriend.
Ethan and Maya were both welcomed, the four of them had small chat before dinner. When dinner was finally served the four of them enjoyed their food. Maya was now calm and she really enjoyed herself she even got emotional remembering how she had never had dinner with her family back at Los Angeles. Maya thought things were going to be okay and wasn't expecting what happened next. I guess Ethan's mother wasn't done with her interrogation as she continued where she left off before as soon as Ethan and his father left the room, leaving just Maya and Estelle ( Ethan's mum).
" So, Maya, Ethan tells me you're from L.A. What do your parents do" Estelle began her interrogation
" Oh yeah ,My dad's a businessman and my mum passed away when I was 10 years old'
" You must come from a pretty comfortable background then"
" Yeah, I guess so, I mean my father worked hard for everything he has"
In a frosty tone Estelle continued " I'm sure he has, I have to ask, what do you see in Ethan ? He's a great kid, but he is also very... financially secure. I'm just wondering what you're getting out of this relationship."
"Excuse me? I care about Ethan because he's a kind and genuine person"
"I'm sure you do. Look Maya, I know I'm his mother but I want what's best for my son. And I worry that you might be...destructed by the lifestyle he's able to provide."
Maya continued in a polite manner" I understand where you are coming from, but I care about Ethan for who he is not for his financial situation."
" You know what Maya I think,no I know you're not good for my son so..."
" That's enough mom" Ethan said as he walked into the room
" Ethan, honey we were just having a discussion about Maya's intentions"
" No, you're being incredibly rude and judgemental. And I'm done with it"
" Ethan watch your tone" his father said sternly
" No, dad I'm not going to watch my tone,mom your comment about Maya not being good enough was completely uncalled for."
" I was just trying to protect you, Ethan "
" Protect me? You don't even know Maya. And you know what you don't have to worry about Maya's intentions and background because Maya and I are just friends and I won't stand if you say one more word against her."
Maya smiled" yeah, we're just friends "
Ethan continued " And that's because I'm gay mom, I've been wanting to tell you both for a long time, but it's better late than never."
Estelle pulled her son into a tight embrace before voicing out the words" I know, I thought you were confused but I'm glad you said it yourself "
" What just happened? If you knew then why push me to get a girlfriend?"
" We just wanted you to be honest "
" Well I think this is a good moment for me to step out and let you talk." Maya got up and gave Ethan a supportive smile " I'll be outside if you need me "
" Wait, Maya don't go. I'm sorry for what I said earlier. I was completely wrong to judge you like that. You're wonderful person and I'm so grateful that Ethan has you in his life."
" It's okay, I get why did it ".
" You know what, I want you to know you're always welcome to this family and I would love it if you called me mom"
Tearfully Maya spoke " that means a lot to me, thank you."
Estelle and Maya hugged, and the tension between them dissipated. Since it was already late Ethan and Maya were invited to stay over.
