The fax machine in the reception room hummed in harmony with the AC that was freezing the whole room. The white lady that was behind the counter watched the governor as he tapped his shoes nervously. Amir was beside the governor wearing a stern but worried face.
"Sir are you sure i can't get you anything?" The receptionist asked for the eleventh time since the governor arrived
Martin looked up annoyed and just shook his head "no thank you"
"Okay" the lady nodded and kept quiet
The silence was broken by the ringing of the telephone in the room
"Hello sir" the lady grabbed the telephone "oh...yeah the governor's here...okay I'll send him in"
She ended the call and smiled at the tired governor "His excellency is ready to see you now"
"About time" Martin grumbled and stood up
He fixed his tie very well and straightened his suit and then walked towards the President's office. Before entering, two hefty guards searched him thoroughly for any weapons before letting him in.
When Martin finally walked into the huge golden walled office, the president was sitting at his desk facing the wall while talking to someone on the phone
"....i want him impeached with immediate effects...i don't give a damn about what the senate thinks." He paused and then continued "good, I'll call you back"
He ended the call and then swirled his chair to face a nervous Martin.
"Good morning your excellency" Martin croaked
"Oh save me the pleasantries! What the hell is wrong with you?!" The president yelled
"I was only doing my job"
"Shut the hell up, this isn't just about Lagos state anymore, the whole Nigeria is involved. Thanks to your recklessness, we lost 59 soilders in Aba! You captured important suspects that could help us in tracking these goons and you didn't even inform me or the vice president!" The president stood up angrily
"I was going to tell you, you know how delicate this issue is" Martin defended
The president just stared at him like he was a fool
"I'm starting to think there's more to all these than it seems" the president rubbed his chin
"Excuse me?"
"You're hiding something huge from the federal government"
Martin kept mute
"Now look, i know the past president was corrupt and he must have tolerated whatever nonsense you have going on but I'm not him. I'm not corrupt like him and I'm going to make sure i fish out corrupt officials who mean harm to this country like him, starting with you" the president hissed threateningly and came closer
"Mr president..." Martin trailed off
"You're hiding something and I'm going to find out what. You're here by relieved of your duty till the senate signs the motion for your impeachment, my men are waiting outside to have you arrested Mr. Martin"
The ground opened up in Martin's mind and his walls came crashing down.
"You can't be serious!" He yelled
"I'm dead serious. Now leave my office" the president pointed towards the door
"You're not making sense mr. president, I'm not hiding anything..."
"You're just wasting your time, i have important things to attend to like meeting the American president and members of the ECOWAS for assistance"
"You have no idea what you're getting yourself into" martin glared at him
"Oh i do, I'm finally seeing your true colours and trust me you're going down with that secret of yours. Now please leave" the president glared black at him
"You're playing with fire, you'll regret this" Martin hissed and stormed out of the office
"Your threats doesn't move me" the president yelled after him
Immediately Martin rushed out of the room into the reception room, a swarm of army officers surrounded him and handcuffed him
"You're under arrest sir"
"What's the meaning of this?! Let go of me this instant! Amir where the hell are you?!" The governor screamed
"What's going on?! Let him go" Amir dashed towards the drama going on
"Move away sir" one officer pushed him away
"He's the governor, let go of him" Amir yelled angrily trying to free his boss
"Not anymore, sir please move away"
The officers dragged the governor outside while he continued raining curses on them. A swarm of journalists were already waiting to cover the news outside, as soon as they saw officers dragging the governor away, they rushed towards them and started peppering him with questions
"Sir what's going on?" One journalist asked pushing his mic. in the poor governor's face
"Sir is the allegations against you true? Are you working for the purple Lagoon?"
The questions kept coming, the officers hurried the governor into the back of their truck and drove away quickly. Amir pushed through the crowd of journalists and hurried into the governor's car, he started the engine and quickly drove off
