Chapter 555 - Chapter 555: Slapping Captain America

Amplified by his Haki, Garp's furious roar echoed across the entirety of New York.

The sheer intensity of his voice actually caused the mindless Chitauri army to freeze in momentary shock.

Staring up at the old man who had just dismantled a Leviathan bare-handed, a line of code roughly translating to "fear" compiled within their emotionless programming for the very first time.

Down in the alley, the future Avengers squad remained hidden, completely terrified to make any rash moves.

Captain America gripped his shield tightly.

"Our priority is securing the stones. Absolutely do not cause extra complications by provoking that old man."

Future Iron Man nodded grimly.

"Agreed. He's looking for Thanos, not us. Let him draw the heat while we stick to the plan."

But just as they turned to slip into Stark Tower, Garp suddenly whipped his head around.

His Observation Haki had locked onto the four suspicious figures cowering in the alley ages ago.

With a massive leap, he plummeted from the sky, crashing onto the street right in front of them and leaving a deep crater in the asphalt.

Picking his nose, Garp evaluated the weirdly dressed group.

A guy in spandex holding a frisbee. A guy wearing an iron tin can. A guy in a bug helmet. And a massive green monster wearing clothes and glasses.

Garp pointed directly at Smart Hulk and laughed.

"Hey, greenie! Didn't I just punch you out? How'd you change clothes and get all the way over here so fast?"

Smart Hulk recoiled in absolute terror, stepping back rapidly.

Captain America instantly stepped forward, raising his shield defensively.

"Sir, we are not your enemies!"

Garp completely ignored the plea.

His enhanced hearing had clearly caught them whispering about the "stones" earlier. The Manager had explicitly told them the goal of the dungeon was to steal the stones.

Garp cracked his knuckles, the loud pops echoing down the alley.

"I don't care who you weirdos are," Garp warned. "Hand over those stones, and I might consider going easy on you!"

Tony Stark's faceplate snapped shut, his repulsors powering up with blinding intensity.

"Cap, looks like the plan just changed."

Garp grinned maniacally, violently tearing off his ruined shirt.

"Come on, then! Let's see what you costumed freaks are made of!"

Beneath the faceplate, Tony's expression was grim. He had never seen anyone casually crush micro-missiles barehanded.

"F.R.I.D.A.Y., push repulsor output to maximum!"

The red-and-gold armor raised both gauntlets, unleashing twin blasts of hyper-concentrated laser energy straight at Garp's chest.

Garp just laughed. He didn't even attempt to dodge.

The intense beams struck his tanned pectorals and fizzled out, failing to leave even a scorch mark. Only a tiny wisp of black smoke trailed into the air.

His Sage Body's durability had completely transcended anything conventional weaponry could achieve.

Digging his heels into the ground, Garp kicked off.

The pavement shattered completely as he launched himself forward like a railgun projectile. He was moving so fast the suit's targeting systems could only register a blur.

Instantly, his fist buried itself deep into Iron Man's chest plate.

A horrifying screech of rending metal echoed out. The highly advanced nanotechnology folded inward like wet cardboard.

Tony felt like he'd been T-boned by a bullet train at max speed.

Sent flying backward, he crashed straight through a brick wall at the end of the alley.

His suit's systems flatlined entirely, warning sirens blaring inside the helmet.

"Tony!" Captain America screamed in horror.

He instantly hurled his Vibranium shield with everything he had, the disc slicing through the air straight for Garp's neck.

Garp didn't even look back.

He simply reached out with his left hand and caught the razor-sharp edge of the shield perfectly mid-flight.

The massive kinetic energy behind the throw was neutralized instantly, stopping the weapon as if it were a child's toy.

The sound of the wind ceased abruptly.

"This plate is pretty tough," Garp noted.

He gave the Vibranium shield a squeeze and found it surprisingly resilient. It didn't break.

He turned his head to look at Captain America. Steve Rogers was already charging at him.

The super-soldier had fought in countless brutal battles, but he had never seen a monster capable of catching his shield barehanded.

Steve threw a vicious haymaker.

Garp stood perfectly still in place.

He let the punch land squarely on his stomach.

Thud.

Steve felt as if he had just punched a solid block of reinforced steel.

Searing agony shot through his knuckles.

Garp dug his pinky into his ear, completely unfazed.

"This limp-wristed punch isn't even enough to scratch an itch."

With a casual backhand, Garp swatted Captain America away.

Steve raised his arms in a desperate block, but the overwhelming physical force instantly broke his guard.

He was launched backward over forty feet, slamming violently into a streetlamp. The metal pole bent completely in half.

Coughing up a mouthful of blood, Steve instantly passed out.

Smart Hulk was completely dumbfounded.

This was Iron Man and Captain America! Neither of them had managed to last even a single move against this guy.

Swallowing heavily, the massive scientist tried diplomacy.

"Listen, old man! We really don't want to fight you!"

Garp frowned in deep dissatisfaction.

He found this specific green mutant extremely pathetic.

"You look exactly like that big guy from earlier, but you don't have a single ounce of bloodlust in you! Even random pirates have more spine than you!"

Garp strode forward aggressively.

Purely on instinct, Smart Hulk raised his fists to defend himself.

Garp threw a single punch, catching the giant squarely on the cheek.

The enormous green body spun mid-air twice before crashing heavily into the street, shattering the asphalt into a spiderweb of deep cracks.

Smart Hulk's eyes rolled into the back of his head, out cold.

Only Ant-Man, Scott Lang, remained in the alley.

His knees were literally knocking together.

Panicking, he slammed the button on his glove, shrinking down to the size of a bug.

He desperately scrambled toward a crack in the pavement, praying to escape.

Garp stopped walking.

His Observation Haki easily tracked the microscopic energy signature scurrying away.

"A Devil Fruit user? Shrinking is a pretty neat trick," Garp muttered.

He casually lifted his foot and stomped hard on the crack.

Boom.

The entire street vibrated violently.

Scott had just managed to restore his normal size before being crushed, but the concussive shockwave from the stomp blasted him off his feet anyway.

He rolled across the pavement, feeling as if every bone in his body had been rattled loose.

Throwing his hands up in absolute despair, Scott yelled.

"Stop! I surrender!"

Garp clicked his tongue.

"What a bunch of completely useless garbage."

He marched over, grabbed Ant-Man by the collar, and hauled him up like a stray kitten.

"I heard you idiots talking about the stones. Hand them over right now! I'm on a tight schedule, and I need to go beat up that Thanos guy."

Scott looked like he was about to burst into tears.

They had literally just arrived in this timeline. They hadn't even laid eyes on Loki yet, let alone secured any stones.

"We don't have them! We came here to look for them too!"

Garp's Observation Haki confirmed the terrified man was telling the absolute truth.

Disgusted, he tossed Scott back onto the ground.

"What a complete waste of my time."
