Chapter 26 - Consequences of the Night
His voice was cold and low but it reached her ears anyway. Her blood turned to ice in her veins and no matter what she did, she couldn't move. Her mind couldn't think of how to get her out of this situation either. She looked down at him to see that he hadn't moved, nor had he looked away.
In fact, he didn't seem like he had any plans to.
She gulped.
She wouldn't move either. She knew she couldn't stay here forever but to make herself go down the tree just felt stupid.
The air grew tense, and the seconds dragged on as if they would never end.
Yet, every time she looked down, he was looking up at her.
His eyes remained unreadable and now he had shoved his hands into his pockets.
Watching.
Watching.
Didn't he have somewhere to be?
The wind blew and the leaves shook gently. The air felt even colder against her skin, given how much she was sweating.
