Chapter 7 - Chapter 7"The Turning Point"

Elena's mind had gone completely numb.

It was as if a bomb had exploded near her ears and then all sound had vanished.

She wanted to speak — anything — but she couldn't.

She could only watch her own spectacle unfold, every laugh striking her heart like a stone.

Every camera flash felt like it was engraving her humiliation permanently.

Her breaths came heavy and uneven.

Ethan controlled himself and stepped straight in front of her — serious, composed, as if finally ready to hear her response.

"Forgive me, Elena. I made such a terrible joke at your expense."

For a single heartbeat… just a single heartbeat… Elena's heart raced uncontrollably.

Was he serious?

Was this real regret?

But the very next moment —

A flood of laughter escaped his mouth.

Loud, unrestrained, triumphant.

That laughter broke something inside her.

This time it wasn't just her trust… her self-respect had been bruised too.

Some students smiled. Some were shocked. Some were disturbed.

And the one who felt it worst… was Elena's best friend.

Tears in her eyes, while Elena's eyes were dry, hardened.

Elena gripped her file tightly — so tightly that her knuckles whitened.

Now she understood.

This had been a drama.

A prank.

A joke.

A performance played with her heart.

She fought back her tears.

Even a single tear would mean defeat.

Not today.

She drew a deep, shuddering breath.

Her chest burned. Her heart pounded so loud she felt the whole courtyard could hear it.

Then —

She laughed.

Loudly.

Clapping her hands, exaggerating like a performer herself.

Her laughter was strange.

It carried pain.

It carried a scream.

It carried the questions she had never dared to ask.

Why?

Why, Ethan?

She pointed at him and laughed even harder.

"Hahaha Ethan, uff, wait! Let me laugh… what a great joke, buddy!"

The overacting clapping made her look like she was part of the drama too.

Ethan had expected her to cry.

To curse him.

To run away humiliated.

But —

The game had flipped.

Shock now belonged to Ethan Walker.

"I knew it, Ethan. This was all a prank. A joke. Otherwise, I would have never said yes… to someone like you."

Her voice was steady… but inside, she was breaking.

"You, Ethan Walker? Proud, arrogant. Someone who doesn't even understand what love feels like?"

As she spoke, her heart felt shredded.

Every word cut her own chest too.

Because she had truly believed him.

"What did you think? That after four days of laughing and talking to me, I'd just fall for your love? That I wouldn't see through you?"

She stepped forward.

The space between them now felt like nothing more than air.

"Ethan Walker will ask 'Will you be mine?' and this time — I'll say 'Yesss'?"

This time, she toyed with the joke.

And she laughed again.

But beneath her laughter lay a promise.

She would never trust so easily again.

The students felt like they were witnessing a new drama.

They watched her every move with wide eyes.

But what they didn't know —

This wasn't just a public scene.

It was the birth of a new Elena.

And when someone who has been broken pulls herself together…

She is never the same again. 🔥

"The Great Ethan Walker… just relax! I was joking too, guys!"

Elena shouted, her voice trembling slightly, but she hid that tremor behind a smile.

"Everybody just chill…"

She started to smile.

But the smile didn't reach her eyes.

Her heart still pounded furiously.

Inside her chest, something had cracked and shifted.

The echoes of laughter still rang in her ears.

Ethan just stared.

His face was red with anger.

Jaw tight.

Fists clenched until his knuckles were white.

This reaction — Elena's control, her composure, the way she had flipped the game —

It was beyond anything he had expected.

He had no words.

Just ego.

And that ego had just been publicly wounded.

Elena forced the rising weakness inside her down.

If she had stopped even for a second, tears would have sprung.

Not today.

"Okay guys, let's go to your classes. Enough drama. Now focus on your studies."

She said it with confidence so natural, so untouchable, as if nothing had happened.

The students still watched her.

Some impressed. Some confused. Some convinced it had all been scripted.

Phones were still raised, capturing every confident step.

Elena pressed her file against her chest — her shield.

She turned and walked away.

Every step deliberate, every movement brimming with control.

Behind her, whispers followed.

"Did you see that?"

"She flipped it!"

"Ethan got his answer…"

Ethan stormed off, his steps sharp and heavy, breathing fast, ego ablaze.

He had thought she would break.

But today…

He was the one shaken.

Elena slowed for just a moment, letting herself breathe.

Her smile faltered slightly, but it was real.

Her heart still ached.

Questions still burned.

But one thing was certain —

The Elena who laughed now was not the same Elena who had been mocked.

And deep inside her… she knew.

This story had only just begun.
