Chapter 11 - Chapter 11"The Golden Storm"

Ethan didn't say a word. He just stood there, rooted to the spot, his dark eyes searching hers with an intensity that felt like he was trying to find the broken girl who had cried for him yesterday. But that girl was gone.

Elena didn't flinch. She looked him straight in the eyes—cold, steady, and completely unfazed. Her voice was low, but it carried a weight that seemed to cut through the heavy silence between them.

"Don't look at me for answers, Ethan," she said, her gaze never wavering. "I've already told your friends everything they—and you—need to know. I'm sure they'll fill you in on the details."

She didn't wait for a reaction. She didn't even give him the satisfaction of seeing her angry. With a sharp, decisive step, she brushed past him, leaving him standing in the doorway of the cafeteria, speechless for the first time in his life.

Elena's friends followed closely behind her, but her pace was quick. She wanted to escape the suffocating atmosphere of the cafeteria and the weight of everyone's lingering stares as fast as possible. She headed straight toward the school gate, the exact spot where the school van arrived every single day.

Standing by the gate, she kept her eyes fixed on the road, searching for the familiar van among the passing vehicles. Her friends stood around her, still buzzing with excitement and whispering about the drama that had just unfolded in the cafeteria, but Elena's silence had grown deep. She was just waiting for that van—a way to finally leave this school behind for the day and just breathe. After a few moments, the yellow school van pulled up in front of the gate, and without wasting a second, Elena stepped toward it.

Ethan followed Elena, his eyes locked on her back as she moved toward the school gate. He didn't let her get away that easily. Just as she reached the spot where she usually waited for her van, he stepped in, blocking her path and standing directly in front of her.

The air between them felt thick with tension. Elena, who was just seconds away from leaving, was forced to stop. She looked up, and there he was—Ethan, standing like a wall between her and her escape. For a moment, the world around them seemed to fade away, leaving only the two of them standing at the gate, caught in a heavy, silent stare-down.

Ethan didn't say a word at first. Instead, he reached out and, with a sudden burst of anger, snatched the file Elena was holding and slammed it hard onto the ground.

The sound of the file hitting the pavement echoed through the air, and papers scattered near their feet. He stood there, looming over her, his eyes burning with a mix of rage and something she couldn't quite name. It was a clear declaration—he wasn't done with her yet, and he wasn't going to let her walk away with her dignity intact without a fight.

Elena looked down at her scattered files lying on the dusty ground, then slowly lifted her gaze to Ethan. Her eyes were burning with an intense, raw anger she had never shown before. As a light breeze swept through the gate, her golden silky hair fluttered across her face, catching the light like a halo of fire.

She didn't look like a victim anymore; she looked like a storm that was about to break. She stood her ground, ignoring the mess at her feet, and stared him down with a cold, piercing glare that made the air around them feel even colder.

"How dare you, Ethan!"

She spat his name like it was venom, her eyes locked onto his with a fierce, unwavering glare. She didn't look down at the mess he'd made again; instead, she stepped closer, her voice trembling with a cold, controlled rage.

"How dare you think you still have any right to touch my things or stand in my way?" she continued, her golden hair still whipped around her face by the wind. "You've done enough. Now, get out of my sight before I show you exactly what happens when you push me too far."

Elena stood there, staring directly into Ethan's eyes with a fierce anger, her breathing heavy and ragged. But Ethan, who had been exploding with rage just moments ago, suddenly went dead silent. The anger on his face vanished, replaced by a strange sense of wonder.

Instead of answering her, he seemed to lose himself in her tangled hair. As the wind blew, those golden silky strands drifted across Elena's face, and Ethan could do nothing but stare. In that moment, it was as if he had forgotten why he was even there or how much bitterness existed between them. Everything in his mind came to a complete standstill, his gaze fixed entirely on her beautiful, disheveled hair.

Ethan finally managed to pull himself together and regain his composure. He was just about to open his mouth and give Elena a fitting reply to her outburst, but at that exact moment, the loud honk of the school van echoed through the air.

The sudden sound shattered the intense silence between them. He stood there, his words caught in his throat, as the moment he was trying to seize was abruptly cut short. Before he could say anything more or justify his actions, the reality of the surroundings rushed back, breaking the spell he had been under while looking at her.

The loud horn of the van had broken the spell, and before Ethan could utter a single word, the moment was gone. He stood there, frozen and silent, as Elena turned away without a second glance. He didn't move an inch; his feet felt like they were glued to the pavement. All he could do was stand there and watch. He just kept staring at the departing van as it carried Elena away, his eyes fixed on the vehicle until it disappeared from his sight. The girl who used to wait for his one look was now leaving him behind in the dust, and for the first time, Ethan had no way to stop her.

His friends came running up to Ethan, their faces filled with disbelief and excitement. They couldn't believe what they had just witnessed at the school gate.

"Ohh No! Did you really just let her walk away like that?" one of them blurted out, still catching his breath. "She insulted us so badly in front of everyone, and you just stood there? How could you let her go without saying a single word back?"

They stood around him, waiting for Ethan to explode, but he was still staring at the spot where the van had been. Their words were buzzing in his ears, but his mind was somewhere else entirely.

Ethan didn't say anything to his friends. He didn't offer an explanation, nor did he react to their complaints about the insult. Instead, he simply turned away, shoving both hands deep into his pockets, and started walking.

He moved past them in total silence, his head slightly down, lost in a world of his own. The guys stood there staring at his back, confused by his lack of reaction. For the first time, Ethan chose to keep his thoughts to himself, leaving his friends behind as he walked away with a heavy, unreadable silence.

Ethan turned away from his confused friends and headed toward his car, where his bodyguards and driver were already waiting for him.

He walked with his hands still shoved deep into his pockets, his expression unreadable and cold. As he approached the luxury vehicle, the driver quickly opened the door, and the bodyguards stood at attention, ready for his command. Despite the chaos that had just happened at the school gate, Ethan moved with a practiced, silent authority, leaving everyone behind as he prepared to disappear into the privacy of his car.

Inside the car, Ethan's mind was racing with something entirely different. He was experiencing feelings he had never felt before, and it was starting to unsettle him. He was shocked at himself—why couldn't he stay angry at her today? Why did his rage just... vanish?

He couldn't stop thinking about Elena's messy, disheveled hair. No matter how hard he tried to focus on his pride or the insult she had thrown at him, his mind kept drifting back to that one moment at the gate. He was haunted by the image of her golden silky strands blowing in the wind, and he couldn't understand why a girl who had just defied him was the only thing he could think about.
