It was barely 5:00 AM. I was sitting in the living room with a lukewarm cup of coffee, staring at nothing in particular, when I heard the soft thud-thud of footsteps on the stairs.
I looked up, expecting a guard or maybe Kieran, but it was Kendella.
She wasn't in her robe or her usual high-fashion lounge set. She was wearing a trench coat, her hair pulled back into a severe, tight bun, and she was gripping the handle of a small, designer luggage bag.
I set my coffee down. "Kendella? Where do you think you're going?"
She stopped at the foot of the stairs, her face pale but her eyes oddly focused. "The threat is over, Aurielle. There's no reason for me to be a guest in your house anymore. I'm going back to my penthouse."
"Are you serious?" I stood up, my brows furrowing. "The sun isn't even up. And after what happened yesterday... with Vesper... and Jae-hyun..."
