Chapter 11 - Dragmere Castle III

"Corbin, destroy the gate quickly. It's starting."ordered Lucius, wasting no time.

"Yes sir." shouted Corbin, launching forth and imbuing his sword with enough mana to topple a mountain. Upon impact the gate exploded into pieces, leaving a giant opening into their defenses.

"Charge!" shouted Lucius, running towards the opening in the gate with Lenore at his side. War cries from the soldiers behind could be heard from a mile away, they were casting out all anxiety replacing it with a primal bloodlust.

Panicked shouts could be heard from the battlements of Dragmere, many soldiers came rushing out of the many buildings within. Charging straight to their deaths, Lenore and I dove straight into the soldiers fighting as one. Taking down soldiers one by one while Cercil was to our left mowing down enemies with crushing blows and slashes from his greatsword. The pure amount of power that came off the man shocked him as not once had he seen Cercil take a fight this seriously before. Soldiers poured into the courtyard which we were currently in. After only a few minutes the battlefield had a potent smell of blood and fire. Fireballs rained down from above which were blocked by a mana shield put up by one of the many mages within his unit. If the constant stream continued they would soon find themselves on the back foot so Lucius decided to deal with the threat personally.

"Lenore! Stick with Cercil, I'll find that pesky mage and snuff him out."shouted Lucius, having to raise his voice louder than he thought over the constant screams and clanging of metal.

"Yes sir." shouted Lenore, heading over to the brutish man who was still slashing with reckless abandon. The courtyard was thick with enemy soldiers and from the trajectory of the fire, it seemed the mage was at the back of the yard. Lucius threw both of his spears with enough force to pierce the heavens themself, this cleared a brief path towards the end of the yard.

Casting lunar acceleration, he quickly reached the end and was met by a mage currently chanting a spell wearing a crimson and orange robe, he recognised it as one of the Imperial Inquisition of Magic. Taking his lack of awareness into his advantage, he thrusts his longspear of ice straight at the man's neck. Tearing a hole straight through his neck and leaving a bloody mess of the once handsome looking imperial.

Lucius' fight with the mages of the empire wasn't over yet though, sensing danger he quickly dodged to the left and saw a fiery lance piercing through where he was just standing.

"You monster, how could you just kill him like that. Do you have no honor!?" screamed another one of the imperial mages. Lucius thought the man's outburst to be pathetic, he said nothing to it. This seemed to anger the young imperial immensely and began to quickly chant a spell. Though he wouldn't need to worry about his grief anymore as his head was no longer attached to his shoulders. In one swift motion Lucius had beheaded the emotional imperial, his eyes went wide with shock. Not being able to compute what just happened to him.

"Honor doesn't exist in the Darklands, do good to remember that in your next life." stated Lucius in a rather bitter tone at the man's foolishness.

Lucius returned to where Lenore and Cercil were fighting, he had slaughtered all the mages so no more aerial attacks were raining from the sky. The onslaught of soldiers appeared to be endless, at this point in the battle they had lost more than ten percent of their unit. Lucius decided he would hunt for the commander and end the battle decisively.

"Lenore, destroy these soldiers, we can't afford any more losses. Cercil, protect her as she chants, I'm going to hunt the commander. I did call dibs after all." ordered Lucius soon after he gave these orders, he ran towards the direction of the main keep of the castle. Where the commander would be situated. Lenore rolled her eyes at his hypocritical actions, apparently his words yesterday didn't apply to him but she had faith that he would come back so she gave no argument.

Upon Lucius' leave, Lenore and Cecil gave orders for the men to assume a defensive position and hold back the many imperials currently fighting for their lives. Lenore released her spellbook and started to flip though its pages of magical knowledge. Corbin stayed at her side throughout this process defending her from stray imperials. Her book started to release a blood like substance which began to coil itself around her small figure, an ominous feeling started to creep upon the battlefield. Causing many imperials to stop fighting all together, and focus their attention on Lenore. The blood on the battlefield congealed under her feet, lifting her up several feet. At her bird's eye view, she began to chant one of the most destructive spells inside her bloody book.

"By the crimson tide, my will is cast, may the lifeblood edge be swift and vast. From the vein power flows, untapped and infinite. Scarlet Slash, Lifeblood's Dominion!"chanted Lenore from her heightened position. Ruby chains materialized enveloping the battlefield, allowing no escape. Gigantic scarlet scythes came crashing down on the imperials, splitting many of them in two with others being completely annihilated. Leaving a crimson stain where they once stood.

The Heaven's Hand were not affected as the chains only encompassed the imperial soldiers though many looked terrified at the horrific sight. Many closed their eyes to avoid throwing up on the battlefield once they opened them again. They saw that most of the imperials were reduced to bloody corpses and the survivors reduced to tears, weeping on their hands and knees.

Lenore slowly floated down to the ground where Cecil was standing, also looking slightly shaken by her unsightly magic, the remaining blood at her feet was absorbed by her book for later use. Cecil soon recovered and barked orders for the soldiers to mop up the survivors and head towards the main keep of Dragmere. Cecil said nothing to Lenore, only walked forward towards the main keep. Thrusting his greatsword into one of the many weeping imperials. The soldiers, including Lenore, followed his example and disposed of the survivors. As they approached the main keep's entrance, an ice white moon reared its head out of the perpetual night sky. Casting its light upon the whole castle, leaving no spot untouched by its divinity.

Under the watchful eye of Lucius' moon they entered the keep seeing many dead imperials littered within, cleanly killed with deep slashes to their throats.
