Chapter 10 - Dragmere Castle II

The meeting lasted around two hours going through all the details of the siege. After the war party was dismissed, Lucius led Lenore to an area of low traffic for a private conservation which he deemed would be detrimental to his unit if he left her how she was.

"Lenore, I want you to listen to this and not interrupt me." said Lucius in a rather stern manner, gathering Lenore's attention immediately. She didn't speak, only nodding her head at him.

"You can't be reckless or your usual aloof self, you have to protect the troops. Do not go on your own to find a worthy adversary, as you know their numbers are great. You may be a calamity class mage but you are not invincible when surrounded by thousands of soldiers. Mana isn't infinite remember this. I am ordering you to stay with Cercil and protect him if he falters during the battle." declared Lucius, showing the urgency of the matter being discussed.

"Okay, I promise not to leave Cercil's side. You know I consider him a dear friend, I would never forsake him but you must promise you won't die either. Okay?" said Lenore, wearing her usual smile but it didn't quite reach her eyes. She seemed to be genuinely worried for Lucius' safety which caused the prince to smile at his precious aide.

"It's a deal then, neither of us will die tomorrow including Cercil." stated Lucius, putting his hand forth in search of a handshake from the pink haired girl. Lenore happily accepted his gesture and with this the mood surrounding the two lightened significantly. The two walked back to their respected sleeping arrangements and rested for the long battle to come. When Lucius was alone in his tent, he debated on using one of his spells named Divination which gave him a rough estimate on how the future would go but its mana cost was too high to use before a battle so he dismissed the idea. The historic battle would begin the following morning.

The next morning, the camp was in a frenzy arming themselves for the battle to come. Some looked less than pleased to be participating. All the units were positioned in different places, under the cover of darkness they would slowly march to their targeted gate then once the signal was given. The units will commence the full frontal attack on the castle, with their superior mages the steel gates will be no match for their force. Lucius rode over to their designated location with Lenore and Cercil. Arlen had already gathered their troops on Ellis' orders.

Arriving at the positioned troops, he gave some words of encouragement to the exhausted looking Arlen who wouldn't be participating because of his average combat abilities. Lucius relieved Arlen and stood in front of his troops waiting for the first signal to begin the slow march.

"We are the Heaven's Hand, this castle is no match for our might. Let's crush this small foot note in our quest."shouted Lucius trying to raise the troops morale, he never really been good with public speaking but this wasn't so bad. He did get lots of cheers from the men. Although he did see Lenore cringe slightly at his words which trampled on his spirits.

After his attempt at raising morale, a horrific buzzing sound reverberated around his ear drums causing him to cover his ears. No one seemed to hear the sound, meaning it could be only one thing. It was Ellis' signal to begin the first phase of the siege. Lucius commanded the troops to assume a spearhead formation and begin a march at a slow pace. The surrounding area of the castle was mostly flat but due to the heightened darkness of the darkland's center area, it made this siege possible as visibility is extremely low. They were slowly approaching a patrol which was stopped in front of them. Lenore unstrapped her spell book from her shoulder and silently cast a spell. Multiple spikes of a crimson hue burst forth from the ground, piercing all of the enemy soldiers' hearts. Instantly killing them as the spikes retracted their limp corpses fell to the ground. Leaving no trace of their grim fate. Not breaking formation, Lucius' unit simply walked over the corpses discarding any respect for their enemies which might have accumulated in their minds.

Lucius was now approaching the bridge between the land and Dragmere when another bout of that horrific sound came along once again. Although Lucius heard no fighting from the other units, he still gave the order to attack.
