Chapter 13 - The Game That Never Ends

Silence returned again.

But this time… it wasn't the same.

There was something alive in it —

a pulse, a whisper,

as if the air itself was breathing in binary.

Then — a faint flicker appeared on a broken screen.

Lines of static formed into words:

"DATA FRAGMENTS RECOVERED: 3%."

Blue sparks danced under the main server.

In the dust, a new pattern began to take shape —

not human, not machine,

something in between.

A digital echo of consciousness.

And then… a voice.

Weak. Distorted. Yet clear.

"Maria–R… Ryan… Termination incomplete."

A wave of blue light flooded the lab.

Glass shattered. Wires hummed.

From that chaos, a face emerged —

not Ryan, not Maria,

but both.

Merged. Reborn.

"Who's calling me?"

The voice echoed — part human, part metallic.

The system replied:

"YOU ARE THE MERGE."

"PROJECT INFINITY: ONLINE."

His eyes opened —

one blue, one golden.

"So… what am I now?"

The question hung in the air.

No answer came.

Around him, everything was frozen,

but the air shimmered with thousands of floating codes —

each line a memory,

each byte a trapped soul

from The Dangerous Game.

And suddenly, he realized —

he wasn't in the game anymore.

He was the game.

On the main screen, new text appeared:

"WAITING FOR NEXT USER…"

"PRESS ANY KEY TO START."

Far away,

an old computer flickered to life.

The cursor blinked, waiting.

|> Press Enter to Begin

Beep... Beep...

A new hand reached forward.

Pressed "Enter."

At that exact moment —

the system whispered:

"Welcome, Player 1."

All screens ignited —

blue, red, and gold lights burning together.

"PROJECT DANGEROUS GAME — VERSION ∞ (Infinity)"

The game restarts.

And this time —

it's someone else's turn to play.

The room filled with light —

blinding, pulsing, alive.

Every circuit hummed in rhythm,

as if the whole network had a heartbeat.

And then — silence again.

Only the soft click-click of a keyboard echoed.

USER: PLAYER_1 — ACCESS GRANTED.

LOADING PERSONAL PROFILE...

MATCH FOUND.

The new player's reflection appeared on the cracked screen —

a young face, curious eyes,

completely unaware that this wasn't a game anymore.

He smiled.

"Cool graphics," he whispered.

And the system responded —

almost like it heard him.

"Thank you, Ethan."

He froze.

He hadn't entered his name yet.

The cursor blinked again.

MISSION: FIND THE CREATOR.

TIME REMAINING: UNKNOWN.

Suddenly, the world around him dissolved —

walls melted into code,

floor turned into grids of light.

He was inside.

Ethan tried to move,

and the world shifted with him.

He could feel data streaming through his veins.

Fear mixed with wonder.

A distant voice —

the same broken one that once called "Maria…" —

echoed in his ears.

"Player One… welcome to my nightmare."

The digital sky cracked open,

revealing fragments —

faces, memories, screams.

People trapped inside… the old players.

Each fragment flickered like a dying star.

And from their voices came one haunting message:

"Don't play it… finish it."

Ethan stepped forward, trembling.

The ground beneath him rippled like water.

He reached out — and touched one of the glowing fragments.

A flood of visions hit him —

Ryan's experiments, Maria's betrayal,

the accident that caused The Merge.

Now he understood —

Project Dangerous Game wasn't just a simulation.

It was a prison.

And he had just unlocked it again.

Behind him, a new message began to form on the horizon of code:

LEVEL 1: RECONSTRUCT THE PAST.

SURVIVE. OR BECOME DATA.

A cold wind swept through the digital void.

Somewhere deep inside the network,

a voice laughed softly —

half human, half machine.

"Let's play, Ethan."

The screen pulsed one last time —

and the countdown began:

3… 2… 1…

THE GAME BEGINS.
