"He's doing well. We just had a gathering on Friday."
"Send him my regards."
Sophie nodded.
After lunch, the children played in the garden while Ned stood nearby, watching them like an attentive but slightly awkward guard.
"Aren't you going to sit down for a while?" Sophie walked over to him.
"No need. Standing is fine."
"Nervous?"
Ned gave a wry smile. "Nothing gets past you."
Sophie leaned against the doorframe, watching the children. Sunlight spilled across the lawn and over the playing kids.
"Yamamoto Joichi's business empire collapsed in just a few weeks. Did it affect you much?"
Ned was quiet for a few seconds. "He just returned the Harrington Group shares he held. They were part of the equity exchange during our marriage."
"So the shares you had…" Sophie brushed her hair back.
"Yui wants custody of Emily, but she's been kept under Yamamoto's control the whole time. She only appears at press conferences when necessary."
"What are you going to do?"
