He was tying his shoelaces and answered without looking up, "I told them during our video call yesterday."
"You video call every day?" Sophie's voice rose half a tone.
"Yes," the three children answered in unison.
Sophie took a deep breath. She hadn't known. She really hadn't known that Ned video-called the kids every single day.
When had they even exchanged numbers?
"Let's go," she said, her tone calmer than she expected.
Con was already waiting downstairs. He had brought a seven-seater with the triplets' car seats neatly installed.
When he saw Sophie coming down, he whistled. "You look really pretty today—like a college student."
"Shut up." Sophie slid into the passenger seat.
"I'm serious," Con said as he started the engine. "Ned's going to get a nosebleed when he sees you."
"Con!"
"Okay, okay, I'll stop." Con laughed and shifted gears. "Kids, everyone buckled in?"
"All set!" three voices called from the back seat.
