Chapter 11 - Chapter 11 First Impression

April 10th. The first day of UA High School.

Rei stood in front of his bathroom mirror at 6:00 AM, wearing his new school uniform for the first time. Gray blazer, red tie, dress pants. It fit well enough, though it felt weird after weeks of wearing nothing but training clothes.

'I'm really doing this,' he thought, adjusting his tie. 'First day as a UA student.'

Two weeks had passed since getting his acceptance letter. Two weeks of intense training, preparation, and mental readiness. Now it was time to see if all that work would pay off.

Rei grabbed his bag—stocked with notebooks, pens, and the various supplies UA required—and headed out.

The train ride to UA took forty-five minutes. Rei spent it observing other students in UA uniforms, all heading to the same place. Some looked excited. Others nervous. A few looked like they'd rather be anywhere else.

Rei just felt... focused.

'Class 1-A,' he reminded himself. 'Hero course. This is where everything starts.'

UA's campus came into view as the train pulled into the station. Even from a distance, the main building was massive, all glass and modern architecture designed to look impressive.

'They really went all out,' Rei thought as he walked through the gates alongside dozens of other students. 'Guess that's what happens when you're training the next generation of heroes.'

The entrance exam had been held in the mock city outside the main campus. Now, walking through UA's actual grounds, Rei could see training facilities, support labs, and buildings whose purposes he could only guess at.

'This place is huge,' he realized. 'Could probably get lost for hours.'

Following the crowd and the signs pointing toward the first-year classrooms, Rei made his way inside the main building. The hallways were wide, clean, and filled with students trying to figure out where they were supposed to go.

Rei checked his class assignment paper:

Class 1-A, Room 1-A, First Floor.

'Simple enough.'

He followed the hallway, passing 1-B, 1-C, until he found it.

A massive door—easily twice the height of a normal door, probably designed to accommodate students with mutation Quirks—with a sign that read 1-A

'This is it.'

Rei took a breath and slid the door open.

The classroom was already half-full. Students scattered around, some sitting at desks, others standing in groups talking. The energy was a mix of excitement and nervousness.

And immediately, Rei recognized faces.

Bakugo sat near the window, feet propped up on his desk, scowling at nothing in particular. His aggressive energy filled that corner of the room.

Midoriya stood near the front, looking anxious and out of place, clutching his bag like a lifeline.

And—Rei's eyes widened slightly—a tall guy with glasses was currently lecturing Bakugo about proper desk etiquette.

'Iida,' Rei identified. 'Going full class representative mode on day one.'

"TAKE YOUR FEET OFF THE DESK!" Iida's voice carried across the room. "IT'S DISRESPECTFUL TO THE UPPERCLASSMEN WHO USED THESE DESKS BEFORE US!"

"Like I care," Bakugo shot back. "Who the hell are you anyway?"

"I AM TENYA IIDA, FROM SOMEI PRIVATE ACADEMY!"

'And there it is,' Rei thought with mild amusement. 'Canon interactions starting right on schedule.'

He scanned the room for his assigned seat, found it—middle row, window side—and walked over without drawing attention.

As he sat down, he continued observing.

A girl with long black hair tied in a ponytail sat near the front, looking composed and confident. 'Momo Yaoyorozu,' Rei's memory supplied. 'Recommended student. Creation Quirk. Insanely talented.'

His future—way future—romantic interest, if things went according to his vague plan. But that was a problem for later. Much later.

A guy with red spiky hair and a bright smile was chatting with someone. 'Kirishima. Hardening Quirk. Good guy.'

A girl with pink skin and horns was bouncing excitedly in her seat. 'Ashido. Acid Quirk. High energy.'

And then—Rei's enhanced hearing picked up the sound of the door opening again.

A girl with brown hair walked in, looking around nervously until her eyes landed on Midoriya.

'Uraraka,' Rei recognized her immediately. 'The girl from the entrance exam.'

She walked up to Midoriya, and Rei watched the interaction play out exactly as he remembered from the anime.

"Hey! You're the curly-haired guy from the exam!" Uraraka's voice was bright and friendly. "My name's Ochaco Uraraka!"

Midoriya immediately went red, stuttering something incomprehensible.

'Poor guy,' Rei thought. 'Not used to people being nice to him.'

Iida then approached, introducing himself formally, apologizing for his initial rudeness at the exam, the whole bit.

Rei half-listened while organizing his desk, pulling out a notebook and pen.

'Everything's on track,' he noted. 'Canon events happening as expected. Which means—'

The door opened again.

But this time, nobody walked in.

Instead, something yellow and lumpy shuffled through the door at ground level.

'A sleeping bag?'

The entire class went silent, confused, as the yellow sleeping bag worm-crawled its way into the classroom and stopped at the front.

Then a tired voice came from inside it.

"It took you eight seconds to quiet down. That's not going to cut it. Time is precious. Rational students would understand that."

The sleeping bag unzipped, and a man with messy black hair, tired eyes, and what looked like days-old stubble emerged.

Rei's posture straightened immediately.

'Aizawa.'

Eraserhead. The underground hero. Homeroom teacher for Class 1-A. And one of the most dangerous people in this building if you got on his bad side.

"I'm Shota Aizawa, your homeroom teacher," Aizawa said in a flat, exhausted tone. He pulled something out of his sleeping bag—a blue and white gym uniform. "Put these on and meet me outside. We're starting with a Quirk Apprehension Test."

The class erupted into confused murmurs.

"A Quirk test?"

"What about the entrance ceremony?"

"Are we skipping orientation?"

Aizawa's eyes narrowed. "If you want to be heroes, you don't have time for frivolous ceremonies. UA is known for its freestyle education system. That means I run this class how I see fit."

He turned toward the door.

"You have five minutes. Locker rooms are down the hall. Anyone who's late doesn't participate."

And then he walked out, leaving the class in stunned silence.

For a moment, nobody moved.

Then Bakugo stood up. "You heard him. Let's go."

That broke the spell. Students scrambled to grab their bags and head for the locker rooms.

Rei stood up calmly, grabbed the gym uniform Aizawa had tossed on his desk, and followed the crowd.

'So it begins,' he thought. 'The Quirk Apprehension Test. This is where Aizawa evaluates everyone. Where he threatens to expel whoever comes in last.'

'Time to show what I can do.'

---

The locker room was chaos—boys changing quickly, nervous energy filling the space.

Rei found an empty locker, changed into the gym uniform efficiently, and was one of the first ones out.

The others trickled out over the next few minutes. Bakugo looked ready to fight someone. Midoriya looked like he was going to throw up. Iida looked serious and determined.

Once everyone was assembled, Aizawa led them to one of UA's training grounds—a large field with various stations set up for different physical tests.

"Alright," Aizawa said, turning to face the class. "Before we start, I want to establish something."

He pulled out his phone and showed them something on the screen—test results from middle school.

"In middle school, you weren't allowed to use your Quirks during physical tests. It was an irrational system that didn't measure your true abilities." He put his phone away. "Here at UA, we don't have those restrictions. You'll be taking the same tests you did in middle school, but this time, you can use your Quirks freely."

He gestured to the field.

"There are eight tests total. 50-meter dash, grip strength, standing long jump, sustained sideways jumps, ball throw, distance run, sit-ups, and seated toe-touch. Use your Quirks however you want. Show me what you can do."

The class murmured excitedly.

'This is it,' Rei thought. 'First real evaluation.'

Then Aizawa dropped the bomb.

"Oh, and one more thing." His expression didn't change, but his tone got colder. "Whoever places last in the overall rankings will be judged as having no potential and will be expelled immediately."

The field went dead silent.

"EXPELLED?!" multiple students shouted at once.

"On the first day?!"

"That's not fair!"

Aizawa's tired eyes scanned the class. "Natural disasters. Major accidents. Selfish villains. Calamities whose time or place can't be predicted. Japan is covered with unfairness. Heroes are the ones who reverse that unfairness. If you were hoping to spend your evenings hanging out at McDonald's, too bad. For the next three years, UA will run you through the wringer. That's Plus Ultra."

He smiled, but it wasn't friendly. It was the smile of someone about to enjoy watching students squirm.

"Go beyond. Plus Ultra." Aizawa gestured to the field. "Now, let's get started. Bakugo, you placed first in the entrance exam. What was your best ball throw in middle school?"

Bakugo stepped forward, cocky as ever. "Sixty-seven meters."

"Good. Try it again, but this time use your Quirk." Aizawa tossed him a ball. "Do whatever you want as long as you stay in the circle."

Bakugo caught the ball, grinned, and stepped into the throwing circle.

He wound up, explosions already crackling in his palm.

"DIE!" he screamed, launching the ball with a massive explosion.

The ball rocketed into the sky, disappearing from view.

Aizawa held up a device showing the distance.

705.2 METERS

The class erupted in amazed reactions.

"705 meters?!"

"That's insane!"

"So cool!"

Rei watched silently, analyzing.

'Bakugo's strength is his raw power and aggression. He maximizes his Quirk's explosive force without hesitation. No holding back.'

Aizawa let the class react for a moment, then cut through the noise.

"This is what UA is about. Maximizing your Quirks' potential. Now, everyone will take these tests in order. I'll be recording your results. Remember—last place gets expelled."

The nervous energy returned immediately.

'Game on,' Rei thought, cracking his knuckles.

Time to show UA what a spider could do.
