Chapter 13 - 13 Costumes and chaos

The second day at UA started with something Rei hadn't expected.

Hero training.

Actual, honest-to-god hero training on day two.

'They really don't waste time,' Rei thought as he sat in Class 1-A, listening to their schedule for the day. 'Math, English, then foundational hero studies with—'

The classroom door slammed open with enough force to make half the class jump.

"I AM—" a booming voice echoed through the room, "—COMING THROUGH THE DOOR LIKE A NORMAL PERSON!"

All Might stepped through the doorway, his massive frame barely fitting, wearing his Silver Age costume and that trademark smile that could probably be seen from space.

The class exploded into excited reactions.

"IT'S ALL MIGHT!"

"HE'S REALLY TEACHING HERE!"

"SO COOL!"

Rei watched the Symbol of Peace stride to the front of the classroom with complete confidence, and despite knowing this was coming, despite having seen it in the anime, actually being in the same room as All Might hit different.

'The number one hero,' Rei thought. 'The man who'll eventually pass the torch to Midoriya. And right now, he's standing twenty feet away.'

"WELCOME TO THE MOST IMPORTANT CLASS AT UA HIGH!" All Might announced, striking a pose. "THINK OF IT AS HERO-ING 101! HERE, YOU WILL LEARN THE BASICS OF BEING A PRO! AND WHAT IT MEANS TO FIGHT IN THE NAME OF GOOD!"

He pointed to a card he was holding.

"TODAY'S LESSON: BATTLE!"

The class leaned forward, excitement building.

"BUT ONE OF THE KEYS TO BEING A HERO IS—" All Might pressed a button on a remote, and the classroom wall opened up, revealing numbered compartments, "—LOOKING GOOD!"

Cases slid out from the wall, each numbered to correspond with a student's seat number.

"THESE ARE YOUR HERO COSTUMES!" All Might announced. "DESIGNED BASED ON YOUR QUIRK REGISTRATION FORMS AND REQUESTS! AFTER YOU SUIT UP, GATHER AT TRAINING GROUND BETA!"

"YES SIR!" the class shouted in unison.

Rei looked at his case—number 15—and felt a small spike of anticipation.

'My hero costume,' he thought. 'Let's see what they came up with.'

---

The locker room was chaos as students opened their cases and reacted to their costumes.

"Whoa, this is so cool!"

"They actually made it exactly how I wanted!"

"This is gonna be AWESOME!"

Rei opened his case and pulled out the suit.

Black and white. Sleek. Form-fitting but flexible. The design was based on the Advanced Suit from the Spider-Man game he'd played in his previous life—a suit that balanced style with function.

The main body was primarily black with white web patterns running across it. A large white spider emblem sat on the chest and back, stylized and sharp. The material felt durable but breathable, probably some kind of specialized fabric designed to handle his acrobatic movements.

The mask was a separate piece—white-lensed eyes over a black base, expressive enough to show emotion but protective enough to hide his identity.

'They nailed it,' Rei thought, running his hand over the material. 'This is perfect.'

He changed quickly, the suit fitting like a second skin. Not restrictive, but tight enough that nothing would catch or snag during combat. The gloves and boots had enhanced grip pads—probably to assist with wall-crawling, though he didn't need them.

Rei pulled on the mask last, and the lenses automatically adjusted, enhancing his already enhanced vision.

'HUD display?' Rei blinked, and information appeared in his peripheral vision—heart rate, time, environmental data. 'Okay, that's actually useful.'

He stepped out of the changing area and immediately noticed the reactions.

Some students were still adjusting their costumes. Others were already showing off.

Iida looked like a knight in armor. Bakugo had gone for an aggressive punk-military aesthetic with grenade gauntlets. Uraraka's costume was pink and white with what looked like zero-gravity boots.

And Midoriya—

'Oh no,' Rei thought, spotting the green-haired kid. 'He went full All Might fanboy with the costume, didn't he?'

Midoriya's costume was clearly inspired by All Might's Silver Age look—green bodysuit, red gloves and boots, a white face mask, and that ridiculous helmet with the ear-pieces.

'He looks like a rabbit,' Rei thought, suppressing the urge to comment.

"Whoa, Mizuki!" Kirishima's voice pulled Rei's attention. The red-haired kid was wearing a costume that showed off his muscular build—clearly designed to display his hardening Quirk. "That suit looks sick! Very hero-like!"

"Thanks," Rei said simply.

"You look like an underground hero," Asui—Tsu—commented, her frog-like costume fitting her perfectly. "Sleek and practical. Ribbit."

Before Rei could respond, the door to the girls' changing room opened, and the female students emerged.

Yaoyorozu stepped out first, and Rei's brain short-circuited for half a second.

'That's... a bold costume choice.'

Her hero costume was a red and white leotard that left very little to the imagination—clearly designed to maximize skin exposure for her Creation Quirk, which required her to produce items from her body's lipids. Practical for her Quirk, but...

'Focus,' Rei told himself. 'Professional. We're about to do combat training.'

Yaoyorozu caught his glance—just for a second—and Rei immediately looked away, mentally kicking himself.

'Smooth. Real smooth.'

"Alright, everyone!" All Might's voice boomed from outside. "TO TRAINING GROUND BETA!"

---

Training Ground Beta was a massive indoor facility designed to look like a city block—tall buildings, streets, alleyways. Perfect for urban combat scenarios.

The class gathered in front of All Might, who stood before them with his usual overwhelming presence.

"NOW THEN!" All Might began. "FOR TODAY'S BASIC TRAINING, WE'LL BE SPLITTING INTO VILLAIN AND HERO TEAMS FOR A TWO-ON-TWO INDOOR BATTLE!"

He pulled out a script card and started reading.

"THE SCENARIO IS: THE VILLAINS HAVE HIDDEN A NUCLEAR MISSILE SOMEWHERE IN THEIR HIDEOUT! THE HEROES MUST STOP THEM! THE HEROES WIN IF THEY CAPTURE THE VILLAINS OR SECURE THE WEAPON! THE VILLAINS WIN IF THEY PROTECT THE WEAPON FOR THE ENTIRE TIME LIMIT OR CAPTURE THE HEROES!"

"Isn't this a little advanced for the first day of training?" Tsu asked.

"THE BEST TRAINING IS WHAT YOU GET ON THE BATTLEFIELD!" All Might declared. "BUT REMEMBER—NO SERIOUS INJURIES! I'M THE ONLY TEACHER, SO I CAN'T BE EVERYWHERE AT ONCE!"

He held up two boxes—one labeled "HERO," one labeled "VILLAIN."

"WE'LL DETERMINE THE TEAMS BY DRAWING LOTS!"

'Random teams,' Rei thought. 'Could be anyone.'

Students lined up and drew their lots one by one.

Rei reached into the box and pulled out a letter.

TEAM F

"ALRIGHT!" All Might announced once everyone had drawn. "HERE ARE THE TEAMS!"

He displayed them on a screen:

TEAM A:- Midoriya & Uraraka

TEAM B:- Todoroki & Shoji

TEAM C:- Yaoyorozu & Mizuki

TEAM D:- Bakugo & Iida

TEAM E:- Ashido & Aoyama

TEAM F:- (other students)

... and so on.

Rei's eyes locked onto one name.

TEAM C: Yaoyorozu & Mizuki

'I'm paired with Yaoyorozu.'

He glanced over at her, and she was already looking at him, her expression composed and analytical.

She walked over.

"Mizuki-san," Yaoyorozu said formally, offering a slight bow. "It seems we're partners. I look forward to working with you."

"Same," Rei replied, keeping his tone even. "Your Quirk is Creation, right? Make anything as long as you know its molecular structure?"

Her eyebrows raised slightly, impressed. "Yes. You've done your research."

"Just paying attention during introductions." Rei crossed his arms. "That's an insanely versatile Quirk. We should be able to handle most situations if we strategize properly."

"Agreed." Yaoyorozu's expression shifted to something more analytical. "Your Quirk is Spider, correct? Enhanced physicals, wall-crawling, and organic webbing production?"

"That's the basics, yeah."

"Then we have good synergy. My creations combined with your mobility and webbing should give us strong tactical options."

'She's already thinking strategy,' Rei noted. 'Good. I can work with this.'

"NOW THEN!" All Might's voice cut through their conversation. "LET'S DETERMINE OUR FIRST MATCH!"

He reached into another box and pulled out two balls.

HERO TEAM: A (MIDORIYA & URARAKA). VILLAIN TEAM: D (BAKUGO & IIDA)

The class murmured. Midoriya looked like he was about to pass out. Bakugo looked like Christmas had come early.

"THE REST OF YOU WILL OBSERVE FROM THE MONITOR ROOM!" All Might announced. "HEROES, YOU'LL HAVE FIVE MINUTES TO PLAN OUTSIDE THE BUILDING! VILLAINS, YOU'LL GO INSIDE AND PREPARE! THE TRIAL BEGINS AFTER THAT!"

As the first teams headed to their positions, All Might led the rest of the class to the monitor room.

Rei walked beside Yaoyorozu, both silent, both already mentally preparing for when their turn came.

"We'll probably be second or third," Yaoyorozu said quietly. "That gives us time to observe and adapt our strategy based on what we see."

"Smart," Rei agreed. "Let's see how the first match goes. Learn from their mistakes."

Yaoyorozu nodded, and for a moment, their eyes met.

Professional. Analytical. Two strategists recognizing each other.

'She's sharp,' Rei thought. 'This partnership might actually work really well.'

They entered the monitor room, where multiple screens showed different angles of the training building.

All Might stood at the front, microphone in hand.

"EVERYONE WATCHING?" he asked. "GOOD! THEN LET THE INDOOR BATTLE TRIAL... BEGIN!"

On the screens, Midoriya and Uraraka entered the building.

And somewhere inside, Bakugo was already on the hunt.

'Let's see how this plays out,' Rei thought, watching carefully.

Because in a few matches, it would be his turn.

And he was ready to show Class 1-A what a spider could really do.
