Chapter 20 - Medical Knowledge in Hand!

As Uchiha Shien stepped out of the Hokage Building, a masked ANBU operative suddenly appeared in front of him and his teammates.

"This is the secret medicine."

"This is the chakra refinement technique."

"And this is your borrowing pass—use it to access the hospital's library for related materials."

The ANBU handed each of them a separate item.

Once they had accepted everything, the masked ninja added in an icy tone:

"Neither the techniques nor the knowledge are to be passed on to anyone else."

The warning was cold enough to make them realize he wasn't joking. No wonder there were so few leaks of ninjutsu across the great villages—every village guarded their secrets zealously.

After giving the reminder, the ANBU vanished.

"I'm heading to the hospital first," Uchiha Shien said, waving his library pass before turning to leave.

Medical knowledge wasn't something that could be learned from a single scroll. It required systematic study—an entire curriculum.

Konoha Hospital.

It wasn't just a medical institution—it was a money-printing machine for the village.

Nobles and merchants from all over came here for treatment, and their generous payments funded the continuous training of Konoha's medical-nin.

A single qualified medical ninja was worth more than their weight in gold. Even on the battlefield, they were kept in rear camps under heavy guard—too valuable to risk.

Uchiha Shien wasn't trying to learn medical ninjutsu on a whim. He had good reason: he'd finally confirmed his chakra nature— Earth, Water, Fire, and Yang!

Not as versatile as someone like the Third Hokage or Kakashi, who had all five basic natures, but still very promising.

That last one—Yang Release—was his true confidence booster.

Without Yang affinity, learning medical ninjutsu was impossible.

Compared to the five elemental types, Yin and Yang chakra were far rarer. Most Uchiha possessed Yin affinity, while Senju clan members carried Yang.

But since the Senju were nearly extinct, Yang users were few and far between.

That was why—even in Konoha, the strongest of the Five Great Villages—there were fewer than a hundred true medical-nin.

Soon, Uchiha Shien arrived before a sprawling long building marked by a large wooden plaque with a single character—医 (Medicine).

Civilians came and went through the doors.

The sharp tang of disinfectant hung in the air—unmistakable.

By pure medical standards, Konoha was unmatched. Even the Capital of the Land of Fire couldn't compare.

Not because of equipment, but because of personnel.

Only Konoha possessed medical-nin trained in true Medical Ninjutsu—a field organized and pioneered by Tsunade herself.

Before long, Uchiha Shien found a clerical ninja to speak with.

Clerical ninja were specialists in administrative work—some barely used chakra at all.

In fact, that had once been Uchiha Shien's dream job. If not for Danzo's interference, he'd have passed the exams and become one himself.

That old bastard had really ruined everything.

Suppressing his irritation, Uchiha Shien smiled warmly and asked, "Excuse me, senpai—I'd like to borrow materials on medical ninjutsu. How should I proceed?"

He never understood why other transmigrators in novels always acted like jerks when asking for help. Maybe it was because they never actually saw the people of this world as human.

But Uchiha Shien did. Until he had the power to flip the table, he was content to play by the world's rules.

Maybe that was the difference between anime fantasy and reality.

"So you want to study medical ninjutsu?" the middle-aged man in a flak jacket asked, glancing over Uchiha Shien's pass.

"You can borrow basic books, but jutsu scrolls can only be studied on-site. The hospital has free training rooms for that."

Konoha Hospital's "money-eating" reputation wasn't just about salaries.

The real drain came from resources—the materials consumed while training medical-nin.

Even the basic practice materials cost more than most genin could afford.

Uchiha Shien's pass, but gave him temporary access to those facilities.

Without someone to explain these unspoken rules, he might never have known.

"Thank you, senpai."

He bowed and made his way toward the library.

Like the Academy's, the hospital's library was restricted—open only to authorized personnel.

Knowledge was power in the shinobi world. And ninjutsu knowledge was the most tightly guarded of all.

Villages would rather start wars than let their secret arts leak.

The library was located on the top floor.

There were no visible guards, but Uchiha Shien knew better. Without the proper pass, no one could get this far.

If access were that easy, medical ninjutsu wouldn't be such a rare skill.

Only in Konoha could it be studied this "freely." In other villages, learning medical techniques was as hard as obtaining forbidden jutsu.

Rows upon rows of shelves filled the vast library.

[The Human Chakra Pathway System Explained] [Battlefield Emergency Procedures] [Medical Ninjutsu: From Novice to Mastery]

There it was—the knowledge of medical ninjutsu.

Some of these books he had already read in the Academy, but many were exclusive to the hospital collection.

To most people, seeing so many thick, technical volumes would be overwhelming.

But Uchiha Shien's eyes gleamed.

He didn't see incomprehensible theory—he saw a means of survival, and more importantly, the key to a peaceful future.

Lying flat and living comfortably had always been his dream.

But to achieve it, he first needed power—and power required effort.

Fortunately, he had a little cheat of his own.

Otherwise, even with talent, he could never have learned the Academy's fundamental knowledge so quickly.

His secret tool—the Clarity Elixir.

Another of his experimental byproducts.

He never stored it, making it fresh whenever needed. Its effects were simple: mental focus and calmness.

Other clans had incense or rituals that produced similar results, but his elixir's effect was dozens of times stronger.

Its only downsides were mental strain and rare ingredients—difficult to collect back when he'd been stuck inside the village.

Still, if brains weren't enough, he could always "pay to win."

He might not be a genius like Orochimaru, but with the right tools, he could close the gap.

Beyond the theoretical texts, there were also three D-rank medical jutsu available for beginners:

Hemostasis Technique, Healing Technique, and Detoxification Technique.

As for the anime-famous Mystical Palm Technique—that was classified as A-rank.

Only a full-fledged medical jonin could learn it.

In fact, mastering that single jutsu was enough to automatically qualify as a jonin—no exam required.

The reason was simple: it was so complex, and medical-nin were so scarce, that the rule existed to encourage more learners.

There were fewer than five people in all of Konoha who had mastered it.

Uchiha Shien didn't rush to practice any jutsu yet.

The reason was simple: he hadn't even mastered the fundamentals. Jumping straight into jutsu training would be pointless— He wasn't some protagonist with plot armor.

So he carefully selected ten books to take home.

The borrowing process went smoothly. With his pass, he just registered the titles and was free to go.

Each of the ten volumes was as thick as a dictionary—and they were just the beginner texts.

No wonder so few wanted to walk this path.

But Uchiha Shien was confident.

He would master these basics in no time, and step into the doorway of medical arts.

Even if he couldn't perform the jutsu yet, the knowledge alone would yield huge benefits for his research.

Arms full of books, he headed out of the library, excitement written all over his face—

—only to run straight into an unexpected situation at the door.
