Chapter 23 - Uchiha Mei’s “Calamity”!

Developing a New Jutsu!

When it came to jutsu development, Shien often sought guidance from Namikaze Minato.

After obtaining the advanced materials from the Uchiha archives, his understanding of chakra and ninjutsu had already far surpassed that of most shinobi.

Long live the Clarity Potion!

With that stuff, Mom would never have to worry about his grades again.

Armed with vast theoretical knowledge and able to consult directly with Minato, Shien naturally had the foundation to create his own original jutsu.

In the future, Kakashi had developed the A-rank Chidori at just twelve, and later even improved it into the S-rank Lightning Cutter.

As a transmigrator who could "pay-to-win," Shien had no reason to lose to that guy, right?

Besides, the key to developing ninjutsu wasn't just knowledge—it was creativity.

And in that department, Shien didn't dare call everyone else in the ninja world trash… but he was definitely in a different league.

Not to mention, he had Namikaze Minato personally guiding him.

After all, the future Crown Prince Naruto's Rasengan was developed by none other than Minato himself—proof enough of the man's genius in ninjutsu creation.

So now, Shien finally began working on the jutsu he had long envisioned.

He was in an unusually good mood when he returned to the Uchiha compound.

But the moment he stepped inside, he knew something was wrong.

Every Uchiha he passed looked at him with strange, complicated eyes.

The oppressive atmosphere followed him all the way to his home—

—where he walked right into Uchiha Fugaku, who was leading several people his way.

"Shien-kun," Fugaku said as they crossed paths,

"if there's anything you need help with, come to me."

Then he left without another word.

"???"

Shien was utterly confused. What kind of cryptic nonsense was that supposed to be?

When he entered the room where the clan assembly had been held, the scene froze him in place.

On the tatami mat lay a slender figure in a plain white robe—

Uchiha Mei.

Her face was deathly pale, fragile like fine porcelain that might crack at a touch.

But what caught Shien's eye was the bandage wrapped tightly around her eyes.

Oh no.

For a shinobi, losing an arm was painful—but losing sight meant you could never be a ninja again.

And for an Uchiha, whose pride centered on the Sharingan, going blind was worse than death.

The entire room was heavy with silence—deathly stillness.

Aside from Mei, there were six jonin from the main branch present.

Among them, the only woman—Uchiha Shizuka—was kneeling on the floor, her eyes filled with anguish as she looked at Mei.

Standing in front of the other four was Uchiha Shota, his massive frame almost un-Uchiha-like. His eyes were blood-red, three black tomoe spinning within.

A three-tomoe Sharingan!

That state meant he was ready to strike at any time.

"This…"

Shien's pupils contracted.

He hadn't expected Uchiha Mei to meet with disaster.

Her usual air of confidence and dominance made it hard to imagine her being hurt like this.

But now, he suddenly remembered—he himself had labeled her a "rich, beautiful, strong, and tragic" heroine.

So perhaps, in the original timeline, she had never appeared because this was her fate all along.

After losing her sight, maybe she'd eventually taken her own life—explaining her absence from history.

But had he influenced this outcome somehow?

His healing potion had made him somewhat well-known among both the Uchiha and the village's upper ranks.

As Mei's fiancé, she too would have benefited from that attention.

And someone like Danzo, who despised rising talents and potential threats, might have decided to strike preemptively.

Mei's strength was good—elite chunin-level—but if Root had targeted her, there was no way she could've escaped unscathed.

She wasn't the protagonist—she didn't have plot armor.

That they hadn't outright killed her was probably only because of the Uchiha clan's political weight.

Injured and crippled wasn't the same as dead.

"Shien, from now on, you'll be taking care of Mei," Uchiha Shizuka said as soon as she saw him enter. She stood up, moved beside Shota, and together they blocked Uchiha Shu—the senior-most man in the room.

"We're leaving."

Uchiha Shu frowned, but led the others away. Shota and Shizuka followed soon after.

What came next would be the internal power struggle within the main household.

Before, everything had been stable because Uchiha Mei, as the designated successor, was there to keep the balance.

Now that she was blind, she could no longer hold that position.

Even the current clan head, if blinded, would be forced to step down immediately.

A clan leader didn't have to be the strongest fighter—but they at least needed to be capable of fighting. Otherwise, one assassination attempt would end everything.

As for why Shizuka had asked Shien to take care of Mei?

It was obvious—their engagement.

Shien's protection within the Uchiha clan came entirely from Mei.

If she fell, that protection would vanish too.

So, in every sense, he was the best choice to stay by her side.

Shizuka and Shota, as main-branch jonin, now had to focus on stabilizing the internal situation—hence their hurried departure.

And no one else would bother attacking Mei now.

Because she was no longer a threat.

Once they were gone, Shien examined his motionless fiancée.

It was bad—really bad.

Her eyes had been completely destroyed. Even the best medical ninjutsu couldn't repair that.

Too convenient, he thought grimly.

His newly developed potion had just reached the stage of human trials, and now—out of nowhere—he had the perfect "test subject."

His healing elixir base, enhanced with the regenerative compounds extracted from those mutated lizards, had theoretically gained limb-regeneration potential.

But on humans? He had no idea what the effects—or dosage—would be.

He couldn't risk using an untested formula on his fiancée.

Still, seeing Mei lying there like a lifeless doll, Shien finally spoke.

"Do you want to see again?"

This woman was his golden ticket—if she went down, so did he. Whatever it took, he had to save her.

He couldn't bear the thought of her killing herself out of despair. Words might be cheap, but they could still plant a seed of hope.

Yet Mei didn't respond.

Of course not—she'd already sought out the best healers in secret, and every one of them had declared her case hopeless.

As for Tsunade, the unrivaled queen of medical ninjutsu—she'd vanished from the village after losing her brother and lover. No one could find her.

So why would Mei believe a freshly graduated genin who claimed he could fix her eyes?

"Come on."

Realizing persuasion was useless, Shien simply grabbed her and pulled her up.

In the past, the strong-willed and overbearing Uchiha Mei would've immediately kicked him through a wall for his audacity.

But now, she was as unresponsive as a puppet, letting him drag her along—proof enough of how deeply her blindness had shattered her spirit.

Soon, the two of them descended into the underground laboratory.

And there—

—a miracle was about to begin.
