Chapter 97: Dorry, Brogy, and Wine
The volcanic eruption signaled the start of another duel between Dorry, the giant warrior and former captain of the Giant Warrior Pirates, and Brogy.
These battles would go on, for victory, and for the pride of the giants.
Thump, thump, thump!
Dorry and Brogy charged across the island, shaking the ground and flattening thick forest as they ran. Their giant weapons swung in wide arcs, their shields rose to meet them, and the deafening crash of steel against steel rolled over the entire island.
Elsewhere, Roy arrived with Toki at a relatively open stretch of grass. They looked up at the breathtaking scene.
Brogy, built like a roaring war god, and Dorry, fierce and imposing, both fought with clear intent, each strike aimed for a vital point. Every time their shields met, it became a raw contest of strength, trampling trees underfoot or blasting the other back hard enough to shatter boulders the size of small hills.
They were evenly matched. In the end neither could gain the upper hand. Their weapons flew from their hands at the same time, and they punched each other in the face at the same time, crashing backward together.
Toki had lived in Elbaf with Roy for a while and had seen plenty of giant battles. They happened so often that she did not flinch the way the cowardly trio would.
Still, she had to admit it. Dorry and Brogy's fight was far more spectacular than most, and their strength was on another level.
"These are the two captains Elder Jorul and Elder Jarul mentioned?" Toki asked, looking down at Roy.
"That's right." Roy nodded.
"Gabababa, Dorry, I'll beat you next time for sure!"
"Gegyaagyagyagya! Brogy, next round is mine!"
Crack, crack.
Gegyaagyagyagya!
The two giants lay sprawled in opposite directions. Around them, a massive circular area that had once been forest and jagged rock had been beaten flat into open ground.
Then they burst out laughing, shifting in an instant from bitter rivals to old friends, chatting and roaring with mirth.
Their greatsword and axe were planted in the earth, the sharp edges catching a cold gleam under the sun.
At the edge of the forest, Roy walked over with Toki toward the pair.
Screeeech!
One giant blade embedded in the dirt began to tilt. The huge axe toppled toward the trees.
"Hm?" Brogy noticed their arrival. His expression changed, and he reached out.
Before Roy could even lift a hand, Brogy caught the falling weapon firmly, saving Roy and Toki without effort.
Brogy rolled over, sat upright, and leaned down to look at the two tiny newcomers.
"Clap, clap, clap, Dorry, we've got guests!"
"Gegyaagyagyagya! Friends, got any booze?"
Dorry and Brogy sat opposite Roy and Toki, bending low as they could to see them better.
This island was painfully boring. Aside from fighting each other, there was nothing else to do.
They had clashed like this for decades. Their strength and experience were equal, and their combat instincts razor sharp.
What they did not know was that even in the future, they could keep dueling for a full hundred years without a clear winner.
They always welcomed any fool who chose this dangerous route into the Grand Line and ended up on their island.
Was it a trap?
Yes.
Little Garden's magnetism meant Log Poses needed a full year to record it. Newcomers were stuck in a land full of terrifying dinosaurs, savage beasts stronger than anything elsewhere, and poisonous insects so vicious they could ruin your life in one bite.
There was even an ancient viral disease lurking here.
Of course, every now and then some brainless idiot showed up and tried to attack Dorry or Brogy, only to die for it.
So when a new "friend" arrived, the two captains were always excited. Anything was better than boredom.
"No," Toki said helplessly.
"Wait a second." Roy clapped his hands. The thundercloud Homies drifted in and set a large bundle down in front of him.
Roy climbed onto Horus, rummaged through the pack, and pulled out two bottles of liquor.
Toki planted her hands on her hips, brows pinching like a tigress about to pounce. "At your age, you're already stocking booze in secret?"
Roy rolled his eyes, exasperated by her innocence. "Idiot. Don't you know alcohol is useful for medicine and cooking?"
"You called me an idiot? You've never called me that before." Toki pouted.
Tsuru had said women should not spoil their partners too much. If you never get angry, they stop cherishing you. Sometimes you have to show teeth.
"And Toki looks really cute when she's mad."
"…."
Roy's handsome grin broke across his face, and sweetness rushed straight into Toki's chest, making her heart race.
Oh no. Roy was not even flustered, but she already was.
What kind of advice could two emotionally clueless women really trade? It was like two mediocre students comparing answers, just swapping last place and second last.
Roy walked over, pulled the bewildered Toki close, and made her bend down.
He took a big bite of the sweetest candy in the world.
So sweet. So juicy.
It quenched his thirst in one shot.
Stare.
Dorry and Brogy exchanged glances, then silently watched Roy and Toki show off their affection.
Even captains of giants could feel that sour punch of dog food.
"Captains of the Giant Warrior Pirates, I'm Harold Roy from Sheep House near Elbaf. These two bottles of wine are my gift to you."
Roy introduced himself and held out the bottles.
Whether it was shock at seeing a tiny human tied to Elbaf, or just disbelief at how small the bottles were, the two giants went quiet, blinking as they studied both the wine and the boy.
"Haha, kidding. I prepared proper gifts for both captains."
Roy smiled, unfastened Horus's bulky pack, and revealed several full barrels of liquor inside.
Dorry and Brogy's eyes lit up.
