Chapter 98: Seek Advice from Dorry and Brogy
Toki gave Roy a dangerous look. No wonder he had been acting weird earlier, buying so many supplies from that little island they passed.
So it was booze.
"Tell me, did you sneak a drink?" Toki walked over quietly, reached into Roy's shirt, and gave him a hard pinch.
She was not trying to be a nag, he was still young, and the doctors around Linlin had warned her that alcohol could affect his growth.
Seeing the gleaming sword in Roy's hand, though, none of those doctors dared to add, "And doing that sort of thing too early is bad for you."
Roy honestly felt there was not much between him and Toki yet anyway. He was still young, and at most his hands had been working a little harder.
Cough, cough.
"No, no. Can't you smell me? If I'd been drinking, you'd know." Roy turned around fast, caught her soft hand, and kneaded it playfully to distract her.
"Grrrk."
Right then, while the two giants were enjoying their liquor and Roy was teasing Toki, a strange sound came from behind Brogy.
A huge, vicious tyrannosaurus opened its jaws and clamped down on Brogy's backside, yanking hard as if it wanted to tear a chunk off.
Brogy roared, "Guess we'll bring a dinosaur over to entertain our friends!"
He grabbed the giant axe beside him, raised it, and chopped the tyrannosaurus's head clean off.
Then Brogy reached behind himself, fumbled around, grabbed the head, tugged it free, and held it up proudly toward Roy and Toki. "You've never eaten tyrannosaurus before, have you? Come try some. Crunch, crunch, crunch!"
"I've eaten sea kings, but not tyrannosaurus." Roy nodded. "We'll take a leg and some good cuts, but you can keep the head."
Nearby, Dorry watched Roy in silence, clearly still thinking about what Roy had said earlier.
When did humans start living in Elbaf?
…
Under a beautiful sky full of stars, deep in the primeval forest, a huge bonfire crackled in a wide clearing. Tyrannosaurus meat roasted over the flames, along with other dinosaur cuts Dorry had hunted.
"Gegyaagyagyagya! I get it now. Thanks for your help!"
"Come on, drinks up. Clink!"
Dorry and Brogy each held a barrel of liquor. Before they even started grilling, they had already been swapping stories with Roy. Roy talked about his time in Elbaf, and the two giants shared tales from decades ago.
When they heard how Roy had stopped Linlin from destroying Elbaf, their goodwill toward him skyrocketed.
"You're not drinking." Toki glared at Roy and shoved a glass of milk into his hands.
Roy stared at the milk, then at the wine beside him.
Fine.
He was young, that was normal.
"Alright, bottoms up." Roy raised the milk and chugged it.
Dorry and Brogy held back their laughter and sipped their drinks slowly.
"Kid, did Jorul and Jarul teach you how to do the Hakoku Sovereignty?" Dorry asked with curiosity.
"They did." Roy chuckled at the two of them, looking a little too innocent to be trusted. "Elders Jarul and Jorul said you two were stronger than they were in their prime, so…"
Jarul and Jorul had never actually said that. Roy was just laying it on thick. He had learned plenty from the elders, but their age made it hard for them to show the technique anymore.
So he wanted Dorry and Brogy to demonstrate it for him in person.
Learning the idea was not enough. Seeing it with his own eyes would help him truly grasp the power of the move, which mattered for his own path.
Roy never minded collecting strengths. After all, years later, Luffy would keep getting knocked down, resting a bit, then coming back stronger. The world was unfair like that. Roy valued every edge he could get.
"Gabababa, what's the big deal?" Brogy laughed. "It's just a demonstration. Easy."
"Then it's settled." Roy nodded, pleased.
"But we need your help with something," Dorry said. Roy nodded for him to continue.
"When your Log Pose finishes recording this island for a year and you come back, bring us a mountain of drinks."
As soon as he finished, Dorry and Brogy threw their heads back and laughed like thunder.
"Sure, no problem." Roy nodded. "Honestly, I could bring you more in the next few days."
"…Huh?"
Roy looked confused. So did Dorry and Brogy.
"You don't know yet?" Brogy asked.
"Know what?" Toki looked at them strangely.
"What's the issue?" Roy frowned. "Is something wrong?"
"This island takes a full year to record on a Log Pose. Didn't you notice all the human skeletons around here?"
Little Garden was packed with dinosaurs long extinct elsewhere, savage beasts, unnamed wildlife carrying local diseases, and poisonous insects like ants and mosquitoes.
Anyone who came here was either eaten by dinosaurs, killed by beasts, or poisoned to death.
Dorry explained slowly, but Roy and Toki stayed oddly calm.
"We didn't come by the standard route." Roy pointed at Horus, the thundercloud Homie hovering beside him. "We flew here. Horus is Zeus's brother, a high ranking Homie given a soul by a Devil Fruit user. He can fly, and we've collected plenty of Eternal Poses, so getting lost is not really an option."
Dorry and Brogy exchanged baffled looks. They had never seen anything like that.
Everyone else had to crawl their way up from one of the Four Seas, then follow Log Pose routes island by island through the Grand Line.
Roy?
He just rode a cloud across the sky and went wherever he wanted, whenever he wanted.
"Gabababa, then clap for that!" Brogy laughed loudly.
"Gegyaagyagyagya! Kid, if you ever need to stock up on food again, ask the villagers for help. Or ask us."
