Nathan and I snuck out of the manor and quickly fled to town, which was a short walking distance away.
The town was filled with life.
Lanterns hung low from ropes stretched across the narrow streets, glowing above the heads of laughing children and late-night workers.
Nathan walked beside me in silence, our steps echoing on the stone path.
My gown was simple, with a soft blue sash wrapped around my waist. I had tied my hair back loosely, letting a few strands fall over my shoulder.
I didn't want to be recognized, but I wasn't going to stop being beautiful either.
And Nathan…
Well, Nathan could have worm rags and still looked like a royal painting.
He wore a dark brown shirt with the sleeves rolled up just enough to expose his forearms, the collar open slightly in that infuriatingly effortless way. He looked rugged and polished at the same time.
An impossible combination that he always pulled off and attracted many stares.
Not that I minded the stares.
