My father started walking around the car, examining every detail. The car was black, with the BMW logo displayed on it. It was a large, spacious vehicle.
A perfect car for a family.
After inspecting the exterior, my father opened the door and got in. He placed his hands on the steering wheel and began turning it quietly. I smiled and asked, "So, what do you think?"
"Is this car really ours?" he asked.
"It's not our car—it's your car. It's a birthday gift."
"It's our car, for our family," my father said, smiling at me. Then he asked the salesman if he could start the engine, and the man handed him the keys. After starting it, he pressed the accelerator.
VROOM~~
The engine roared throughout the garage.
My father's smile grew even wider.
After enjoying it for a bit, he turned off the car and followed the salesman to finalize the paperwork in his name. The company had already taken care of all the bureaucracy. My father would be leaving with his new car today.
However, I wasn't sure what he would do with his old car—a much more modest SUV.
He would probably sell it to a used car dealership, which are quite common in Japan.
After nearly an hour of talking and signing documents, my father was finally able to leave with his new car. Once the salesman handed over the keys and necessary documents, my father was cleared to drive out of the garage.
I sat in the passenger seat and asked, "What are you going to do with your old car?"
"I'll sell it, of course. I won't get a great price, but it'll bring in something," he said with a loud laugh as the car started moving.
He was so excited that it was actually funny to watch.
He kept repeating that he was afraid of crashing the car or damaging it somehow. I had never seen my father drive so carefully. Eventually, we arrived home with the new car.
As soon as we stopped outside, my mother saw us.
"Waaah~~ So this is the new car!" she shouted excitedly. She walked around it with sparkling eyes. "You're amazing, Kyo! Thank you so much!" My mother came up to me and hugged me.
"You don't have to thank me. It's the least I can do."
"But you need to control yourself, okay? I've already told you I don't want you spending too much money on us. You need to save for the future."
"You know very well it won't make any difference for me," I replied.
"Even so…"
"Hey, why are you so happy? The gift is mine, you know? Not yours," my father joked.
"What did you say? Do you want to die?"
"I'm just kidding, just kidding."
Some time later, the two of them were already kissing, and I went inside.
After letting out a long sigh, I went to my room and sat down in front of my computer.
After checking my emails and seeing that there were no new messages, I went to the bathroom and took a shower.
After that, I left the house again with my father, heading to the meeting with Asuna and her superior.

When we arrived at the meeting location, I noticed it was a much more luxurious restaurant than I expected. It was a steakhouse. Right at the entrance, we were greeted by an extremely polite woman.
My father gave the name "Shigeru Kanto," Asuna's superior, and we were led to a private room. It was basically a private dining space with a table in the center and seating around it. There was a grill in the middle.
We would cook our own meat.
That's very common in Japan and also in Korea. I'm not sure about China, since I don't know much about Chinese culture, even though I've read some Chinese novels before.
As soon as we entered the room, I saw Asuna for the first time.
A beautiful woman with long brown hair. She had a serious look, but a smile soon appeared on her face… when she looked at my father.
This always happens. People always assume my father is the author Aoi Haruki.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, author." Asuna extended her hand to my father, but he stepped back and placed his hand on my shoulder.
"This is the author Aoi Haruki—my son."
After hearing that, Asuna was left speechless. She stared at me for a few seconds and then smiled. "Ah, I'm sorry, I wasn't expecting that. You look so young. It's a pleasure to meet you—we spoke by email. My name is Asuna Nakamura."
I shook her hand and replied, "Nice to meet you. My name is Kyo Evans. I am Aoi Haruki." I said with a smile. "This is my father, Robert Evans. He handles all my contracts." At least for now.
At least until I become an adult.
Hearing that, Asuna was speechless once again.
However, she didn't ask anything about my age. Instead, she turned to the man who had been sitting down, and he stood up.
A slightly older man with an impeccable appearance. He wore thick-framed glasses and an expensive-looking suit. He extended his hand to me and said, "It's a pleasure to meet you. My name is Shigeru Kanto. I'm an executive at CloverWorks."
"Yes, I've heard about you. You're the one who took interest in Koe no Katachi and worked to secure investors, right?"
"I felt compelled to do so. It's a very interesting script—we couldn't just let it be forgotten. When I read it, I decided I wanted to produce this film at our studio."
"I'm glad to hear that."
"Shall we sit down? The meat is already on its way. We'd like to talk a bit about the script and the production of the film. I have a few proposals for you."
"Of course."
We sat down.
I sat next to my father, and Asuna sat beside Shigeru.
I ended up sitting directly across from Asuna.
She kept smiling at me the whole time—a truly charming smile.
