As soon as the conversation began, I thought they would ask about my age, but that didn't happen. Shigeru started by talking about his studio and also praised the Koe no Katachi script quite a bit.
Asuna didn't say much.
"The theme is a bit delicate, but I liked the way you approached it. She told me your script was rejected by a production company."
"Yes, it was rejected by Toho. Asuna's brother works there, and I spoke directly with him, but the higher-ups didn't accept the script because of the bullying theme or something like that," I said with a shrug.
"I can understand them. They probably didn't even read the script and just jumped to conclusions about the film," Shigeru said with a laugh. "Good for us that we managed to get our hands on something so valuable."
He laughed even louder.
"About the proposals you mentioned earlier," I said.
"Let's eat a bit and get to know each other better first. Do you drink? We can have something."
"That's out of the question," my father said, looking seriously at Shigeru. "Kyo is still very young."
"Hahaha, I see. And you, Mr. Evans, don't drink?"
"I'm driving, so it's better not to."
"I understand."
Soon after, the meat arrived. An elegant waitress brought a tray with slices of meat. It looked expensive—probably high-quality Wagyu.
He's really spending a lot to impress me.
I placed the meat on the grill while smiling.
"If you don't mind, may I ask your age?" Asuna asked.
"Mine?" I was surprised by her question since she had been quiet the whole time.
"Yes. I'm curious, since your father said you're very young."
"I turned 13 not long ago," I said casually.
"Cough! Cough! Cough!" Shigeru suddenly choked on his drink. "Wait, did you say you're 13?"
"Yes, that's right."
Asuna gave me a strained smile and said, "I see… You really are very young." As she picked up some meat with her chopsticks, I noticed her hand trembling slightly.
"You're not lying to us, are you?"
"Kyo really is 13," my father said. "It's hard to believe, but you should trust him. Kyo has been very talented since he was born."
"My god…" Shigeru looked completely shaken.
"How old were you when you started writing, Kyo?" Asuna asked, changing her tone. She sounded like she was talking to a very young child. Well, technically I am a young child, but…
"You don't have to talk like I'm a kid. It makes me uncomfortable."
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to."
"Don't worry, it's fine."
"This is really impressive," Shigeru said suddenly. "I won't be able to act normally after learning this. You looked at most 17, and that alone would've been impressive. But 13? And I thought I'd seen everything in my life… I've never seen someone like you. It's like looking at an alien."
He laughed after saying that.
"You're exaggerating," I said, flipping the meat on the grill. Since the slices were thin, they cooked quickly.
Time passed.
After nearly half an hour of eating and talking about my life and Koe no Katachi, my father decided to ask a question.
"Alright," he said. "You mentioned earlier that you had some proposals for my son. What are they?"
That's it, Dad! I was already getting bored and didn't want to ruin the mood.
Shigeru and Asuna looked completely at ease.
"Hahaha, the proposals, right." Shigeru, who was already a bit tipsy, laughed loudly.
Asuna looked visibly embarrassed but didn't say anything.
"The first proposal is this! I want to buy all the rights to this script."
Hearing that, I stopped chewing and looked at him.
I answered immediately.
"I refuse." I looked at him coldly, without showing any expression.
What kind of ridiculous proposal is that?

POV: Third Person
When he heard Kyo's response, Shigeru—whose mind was a bit clouded by alcohol—didn't quite understand, so he asked again, "You're not going to sell the rights to the studio?"
Asuna, sitting next to him, slapped his shoulder.
"Kyo already said he won't sell the rights."
"Oh, I see." Shigeru laughed.
I didn't expect that, he thought. Asuna had already warned him it wouldn't be that simple, but he hadn't believed her.
"It doesn't matter what price we offer?" he tried to insist, but Kyo made it clear he wouldn't sell all the rights to Koe no Katachi.
"That's out of the question. I want to sign a contract with the studio, but I don't want to sell all the rights to the film. I want to work together with you."
"That was my second proposal!"
"Hm?"
"I want you to work as the series composer for this film. I want you to be part of the team!" Shigeru said.
"Wait, I didn't hear about this before," Asuna said.
"You're hearing it now. I wanted to acquire the rights first, then hire you to work on the film—and also on a long-running series. Isn't that a great proposal?"
"Wait, you intend to turn this film into a long-running anime?" Kyo asked.
"Yes, of course. I think it would be perfect. That's why I want to hire you. I want you to handle the series composition/script for all the episodes. A 12-episode anime."
Kyo heard that and found the idea…
Interesting.
He could add a lot to the story if they produced a 12-episode anime.
"I'm not against turning this script into a 12-episode anime, but I don't want to sell all the rights to the work."
Shigeru heard that and let out a long sigh.
"Then it can't be helped. But even so, I want to move forward with this."
So it was decided that Kyo and his father would go to the studio the next day to handle the matter.
