I smiled softly when I looked at my triplets already slipping into their usual joking mood, teasing each other and laughing in the pool while floating on their rubber rings.
"Are you okay?" Jane asked.
I drew in a breath that felt heavy in my chest.
"I'm not. But I'm hanging there." My voice came out low and flat.
"Everything must feel awful to you. But I'm glad you're not alone in this." Jane stood, then sat behind me. She crossed her legs, casually sipping her cola.
I frowned, not liking the implication of not alone in her words. "Yeah. I have you. I always have you."
She chuckled. "You know, to be honest, from a legal point of view, I'm sure you already understand that what Rafael did was the best for your survival."
"You mean living in a lie?" I snapped.
"Are you really angry because he lied? Or because your kids have different fathers?"
